Getting dipped in VA

So how do they know you have a diesel truck instead of a gas truck? It seems relatively simple to relocate one filler and put the gasoline filler in the stock location. Then they would have no reason to check you.

*rattle rattle rattle rattle* What? Can't hear ya! Oh, no, it's just a gasser! *rattle rattle rattle*

It's kinda obvious.

ya they would hear me coming :)

of course I would probably get in trouble for that also..

But how do they prove its a diesel? Sure it sounds like a diesel...

How bout instead of trying to convince them you're 3500 is really running a 1.5l 3 cylinder,
you just stick a fill tube with a tank filled with "legal" diesel in the stock spot, and you "hide" the real filler spout.
That way when they catch you they can REALLY F you for trying to screw them out of taxes. AND that way there is no way you can claim "oops, my bad I didn't know"

:D

I thought they checked it at bottom of fuel filter..not actually by sticking anything in your tank??

I got no clue.
I was mainly just being a smart ass?
Cause, well, other than being pissed at all of Va's traffic laws (especially the new ones for Va residents where you have to pay 3 "fees" for any speeding tickets failure to use turn signals, etc etc) I don't really have anything to add to this discussion.

Other than the obvious, breaking the law and hiding it just makes it worse if you get caught.

Most Tanks have a roll over ball at the filler in them so they can not be dipped but if you have a extra tank then they will check it and also drain at the fuel filter.

I understand where they are coming from but what about this: I put ON-ROAD gas in my boat, and pay taxes on that. I won't by gas on the water unless I absolutely have to because it costs even more than at the on-land pumps. How do I get my tax $$ back????? I haven't figured out what I need to do yet but I am sure they will be *really* forthcoming with my cash. I hate the government.

If you read up or talk to someone about the taxes and keep a log book and burn gas in a boat you can take the taxs off at the end of the year. All the people that I know that run it at the beach for diesel and gas do it but you must keep good records to do it. I did it in my boat a few years back when I had someone doing my taxes but it was just got to be to much to keep up with now that I'm not running my boats much that the fuel prices hit 3$.

MY 96 PSD doesnt have a drain at the filter that I have ever seen.

Yes it does, there is a little yellow lever on the left hand side of the fuel bowl/heater. You don't use this every time you change the fuel filter?

follow the drain tube down, it will come out right on top of the frame rail; put a small length of tube on the end to keep it off the frame rail and running all over the place.

HTH,
Shannon

I was not aware of that.I have changed it the filter a few times but never drained it.I got some bad deisel a while back and my WIF light still comes on and I have run about a gallon of heet thru it.I'll drain it and try it again-Thanks
