Why the Glock 18 Might Be the Most Deadly Gun on Planet Earth

In December 2003, soldiers of the U.S. Special Operations Command captured the Ace of Spades himself, Saddam Hussein. The former Iraqi president, on the run since the capture of Baghdad, had appeared in a deck of playing cards with the profiles of other fugitive war criminals and naturally was the top card. Hussein, bedraggled and bereft, was armed with one of the rarest of handguns: the Glock 18, the full auto Glock.

Turning the selector switch counterclockwise down, on the other hand, turns the Glock 18 into a fully automatic weapon with a rate of fire nearing Germany’s fearsome MG42 machine gun. In fully automatic mode the Glock 18 has a rate of fire of 1,200 rounds per minute.

Early Glock 18s had ported barrels that vented gunpowder gases in a direction to counteract barrel climb. However, this increased overall pistol length and created a situation where the gas ports could catch on clothing while being drawn—not a great feature for undercover work.

If your more concerned about your recessed barrel's gas ports catching on clothing, but not your front sight - you're doing something weird.

The fully automatic pistol is available for police and government purchase in the United States but without the benefit of frequent, expensive training it’s difficult for even the largest police departments to justify the cost. This specialized weapon may be fun to shoot, but it has little practical value outside of units such as EKO Cobra. For the foreseeable future, the Glock 18 will remain a rarity that roars at 1,200 rounds a minute.

I'd be willing to bet the number of people killed by a g18 is somewhere around 0.

Where-as the Hi-Point 9mm is likely to have been used over 300 times in the past week in Chicago

Where can I buy these 1200 round clips for the Glock 18?

Had the pleasure of holding one once for an extended period of time in a previous life.

1.2 seconds....damn...that's a record for you isn't it? :D

By "used" , do you mean thrown at the potential target?
Much more likely to injure someone with one of those pos guns by throwing it, as opposed to it actually firing......
Hence why I said "used" :huggy:

You ever fired one? I am going with no. They are actually... Really reliable guns. They are uncomfortable, heavy, ugly and just all around shitty... But they work, every time. They are far more reliable than the mid 2k's kimber. Hate all you want but they failed a lot more than shitty hi points.

And no, I do not have and would not want one of those POS.

I have shot 2 different 9mm hi points. Neither would go through 2 full magazines without issue. One was brand new, the other was a used pistol a buddy bought. Sorry I offended you, just stating my experience with them.

I guess my point was, I just think there are better "budget" guns out there, i.e. Taurus, sig, ruger ......

I had one for a short time and put about 100 or so rounds thru w/o any problems.

No man... No offense taken. Just saying... As much as I gate to, they are pretty reliable. I think they act up a little new... But I do not know. My cousin thinks it is the best thing ever. I do not want to be seen with him when he has it.

I am not sure I would put sight in my "budget" category.

I have a buddy that bought two brand new .45 hi points a couple years ago. They have yet to run two consecutive mags without failure. I really wanted to say "yeah they're ugly but they work!" Except they don't work and holy shit are they ugly.

FIL has a 9mm hi point, he offered me to shoot it, 3 rounds and my hand was already telling me you would be stupid to shoot the rest of the clip. Handed it back to him and never looked back. Clerk at Academy Sports told me the hi point is the gun he gets the most refusals on background checks than all the other guns combined. LOL just sayin.........

Would you honestly trust your life to a hi point? better than a rock, but there are a lot better options for not much more.

They will all fire at least once. That being said make the first shot count. Let the flame begin but I have a couple of lorcins. They live in the gloveboxes of my rig and my daily beater. I have glocks, smiths, colts, rugers, etc but I do not carry on my person daily. I also dont want a $500 pistol stolen when some jackass breaks into my vehicle. I have run a couple of hundred rounds through these lil $50 .380s. I just like to have a gun with me when I am riding/commuting for whatever reason that may arise. So yeah I guess I do trust my life to a POS pistola. I would have no problem using a hi point to defend me or mine.

I don't trust shit until I've put enough rounds through a gun for it to earn my trust.

That goes for Glocks, Kimbers, Les Baers. Or those incredibly sexy Big Bang Pistol's made out of a freaking meteor that sold for 4.5 million.

If it's all someone can have because of availability, price, diminutive hand size, whatever - I'll not knock them for having -something- rather than nothing.

And I say this in jest, but far more people have been killed with rocks and pointy sticks than with Hi-Points. So, perhaps a rock is better. It certainly has a higher kill ratio. :)

EDIT - Since we are talking about false beliefs here that Hi-Points are inherently garbage guns.... AK's are far more accurate than most think, and AR's are far more reliable than most think.

I did not even know they made 45's until fairly recently. All I have ever seen or viewed reviews on, were the 9mm. Every review or demo wanted to hate them but they seemed to work. Maybe those were the only good ones. Either way, I really do not give a fuck about them. If all I had was 200 bucks... I eouwo just save 200 more and buy a used Glock.

Maybe my Kimber isn't a high enough model, but I've sent 1k 9mms down the pipe without incident...

I am not sure when their QC went to shit. They used to be fine pistols. They might be again but think of the late CT Winchesters or the current remingtons. Something happened and a really nice pistol went to shit in a hurry.
