Government shutdown

It depends on how they are funded I believe. My roommate works for the USDA and was concerned about losing his job for how ever long but got an email today saying no matter what happens they are funded six months in advance so it won't effect him unless it last six months.

I think there are bigger fish to fry here then Uwharrie...

I just find it ironic that Google is celebrating the 123rd anniversary of Yosemite National Park and it's closed due to the government shutdown.

I'd like to see the IRS, State dept., DOJ, executive branch etc. shut down for a few weeks while they do some house cleaning or eliminate peeps that don't do their jobs or do them VERY poorly.

Not a rant... but.... after digesting all the media hype, internet hype, and other avenues of basically filtered bullshit, I have come to the personal conclusion that we don't need a federal government. What exactly is the federal government actually good for anyway, and other than wasting time and money, and what can the federal government do that the states (most of 'em) could not do as well, or better? I say we flush the toilet, and drain the Washington cesspool.

Well we do need a federal government, but it has grown out of control just like the number of people who are on disability.

I agree, we do need one, but it needs to be staffed with people willing to look out for the good of the country, not just their party or constituents. This whole Obamacare thing has wasted entirely too much time and money. I'm a die-hard Republican, but at the same time, regardless of my thinking, Obamacare was passed into law and it was upheld by the Supreme Court. I'm not crazy about it, but it's the law of the land. If you (senators and congressmen) don't like the way it came about, fix it the RIGHT way. Don't shut down the government just to "try" to defund it. Reminds me of a kid that didn't like how the game was being played, so he takes the football and goes home.

If we aren't already, the U.S. will become the laughing stock of the world. What country will take us seriously if half the country is bickering and willing to "shut down the government" just because the other side won't "negotiate"?

I'm still amazed at how these asshats in D.C. can still be getting away with passing laws that they exempt themselves from. they vote themselves out of healthcare laws, taxes, etc.

There also needs to be a law that states "You walk out on negotiations and shut down the gov't for more than 24 hrs, then you loose your job" That'd happen to each and everyone of us in the non union private sector. How long can they stay "Shut Down"? what are the repercussions to them?

They aren't too shut down because they are still taking money from my paycheck.

LOL, I told a couple of the guys at work they would not have the fed. taxes pulled from their check until the gubernment started back up. They said "cool!" Thought is was absolutely awesome..

" Eldorado outpost says It's "unofficially" closed. "

Does this mean it will be "open" for the October 11-12 weekend?
Not to get in this middle of it, i just do not want to waste 2.5 hours (each way) of wasting my time...
