Gun laws 2

When Rob asked me about this the other day I did a quick check and didn't find anything in NC law prohibiting silencers. However, I missed something.

G.S. 14-288.8(c)(3) defines "any muffler or silencer for ANY firearm" as a "weapon of mass death and destruction". This means that they are ILLEGAL to possess in NC UNLESS you are a federally licensed importer, manufacturer, dealer or collector (G.S. 14-288.8(b)(2) ) or fit one of the other exceptions in subsection (b). A Sheriff will not sign the Form 4 unless you fit one of the exceptions. Form 4 asks the Sheriff to verify that they know of no reason why possession of the firearm or device would place the person in violation of State or Federal law. Unless you can prove to the Sheriff that you fit one of the exceptions, it violates State law for you to possess a silencer and the Sheriff will not sign the Form 4.

Here is a link to the statute in full:

Just get a small .22 rifle, use subsonic ammo, you can hear the hammer fall and the bullet hit they are so quiet.

Great for those pesky squirrels, they don't even run if you miss, not that I ever miss.
