Harlan Thieves

Ever come to think it might have been somebody that was at the park who needed/wanted straps.I'm not sayin it wasn't but how do ya know it was somebody from Harlan?? Thieves are everywhere.

man that sucks... what a bunch of inbreds. All thieves (even kleptos) should have digits cut off.

btw- I have a couple straps for sale... used but in good shape (kidding)

Nobody needs that many.

Nobody needs that many.
X2 Last year they came in our fenced in yard and stole my atv tires and wheels out of my truck parked at the back behind everyone elses vehicles and the house. Tell me that wasn't a local.

That wasn't a local:flipoff2:

At least the cop was cool. He said if he could "relocate" about 20 people, he could just go to sleep at night on his shift.

Rich told us about this when he came in sat. night. It's shitty that a few idiot locals might run so many people off if they keep doing this crap. I wish we would have been coming by when they were in the process of taking them, we'd have had them strapped to the trailer for ya'll to take care of when you returned.

Guys you don't see many offroad parks in gated communities, so your going to have this crap from time to time. Evarts has been a depressed area since my dad lived there (born there in 1927). I can tell you that the officals have been working hard over the last few years to make it better but it takes time and money. Five years ago they had one police car that would barely pull Bailey's Creek road and weren't able to patrol some areas at all, recently they purchased several Explorers to better patrol the area.

I know some of you park at the tracks next to the walking park, that area is ok during the day but at night it's where all the dope dealers and their clients hangout so I would not recommend leaving your towrigs there all night.

Also HokieYJ is right, no matter where you leave your junk lock it up (out of site if possible).

Again, I really hate to hear about stuff getting stolen but believe me we are working hard to make Harlan the best place in the east to wheel.

George

I would like to say I am sorry for us inbred folks from Harlan..
I kind of take this remark personally....

I am sorry for your the personal stuff that was stolen.. I truley am! Greg when you unhooked to go for a parts run to advance was your stuff gone then?

When I pull my regular trailer I have,I always put my straps and chain in the bed of my truck... the theives must be targeting out of town plates.. what kind of air shock was it so I can check on it..? I Personally remember Greatlakes Offroad leaving his enclosed trailer open on accident. Not one thing stolen. I mean he could have hooked up some garages too.. Its sad that it happened and it should never happen.. but lets please lock our stuff up.. You lock your stuff up at home.. Not trying to rant back but this can happen in your kneck of the woods too....

I would love to see thieves lose a hand when caught.. not that would stop or slow them down..

I will check back later tonight and post again..

Guys and gals I am truley embarressed and sorry for the few dumn asses that did this to you..

Rattlesnake in a tool bag!

And you'll be able to identify the little prick when he seeks snakebite aid!

sucks this stuff happens, just the way society is these days. i have had stuff stolen out of my shed behind my house, makes you feel really comfortable, believe me.

on a brighter note, shoope1....thanks for the help out there lugging tools up big perm for me, i appreciate it.

I'm not knocking Harlan or Evarts at all. 98% of the people I've dealt with have been nothing but kind and helpfull. I have yet to hear of anyone getting anything stolen on the Putney side or from anyone that stayed in Harlan. This seems to be an Evarts problem, which just happens to be the most convenient place to stay. We all know not to leave anything laying around now. It really sucks we all had to learn it the hard way. If it is the same people getting arrested/caught, maybe the police need to work out a 3 strikes deal or something.

Oh yea... I guess that makes it ok. My sincere apologies to the crooks.
You must have been raised in the hood.

No, not in the hood. Just the real world. I used to leave my stuff unlocked too. Right up until i had a bunch of stuff stolen out of my own driveway.

I'm not at all taking up for the thiefs. I hate thiefs as much as anybody else. I'm just saying that in the world where we live now nothing that isn't locked up is safe. And the stuff that is locked up isn't really that safe.

Thanks for the heads up, will make sure everything is locked up, hoping to get up there pretty soon! (My kinfolk is more from the Morehead area, there is/(was?) a 4x4 park up there too, hoping to get to. It turns out it is in the area my grandmother grew up!

If Bill Carver gets on here, ask him about his toolbox!! He had one of those huge boxes that was stolen out of his pickup bed in the middle of the day in a business park in W/Salem. Two guys (or three, was several) lifted that sucker (locked) out of his bed and took it. BUNCH of tools etc in it...

I know here in NC, leaving a vehicle by itself right now, there is a signficant chance you will be missing a Caty converter when you get back!! (Happened several times at URE so far that I have heard of...and some local church vans/buses, etc)

Idiots and inbreds everywhere Shoope. Dont take it personally cause there are plenty of mouth breathers in NC as well.

I'm sorry for the losses, it sucks, that's the way the world is now and it happens everywhere. I have never had anything stolen when wheeling. I don't trust ANYBODY! I lock EVERYTHING! I even bought an overpriced padlock in Larurens last month when I went to Gulches because I had left one at home. That said, if they want it they are going to get it but at least I make it a little harder. You have to defend your stuff and that begins with protecting it with security. DOn't leave ANYTHING unlocked that you want to be there when you get back!

I know the locals I have dealt with have been very friendly, very accommodating, and helpful. We have even been visited by a kinda welcome wagon couple telling us about the place and handing out reading material. Might be a good idea to get with the folks that rent the cabins, and camping spots to get the word out to lock it up or it might grow legs. A sign in the back of a truck saying smile, you are on camera, or property protected by Smith and Wesson, might deter the thieves too.
Ronnie, none of this will keep me from coming to ride up there, it just makes me more informed.

Ditto! I'll be up there in 2 weeks. I'm going to be a little more careful and lock everything up due to this thread.

FWIW, I still think Harlan is one of the best places I've ever been to wheel and the Evarts people are very friendly and welcoming.

Damn. Was up there in Feb with SharksandDanger and we did not have any issues. But...I put away all of my stuff in my tow rig, locked down and out of sight (has a fiberglass bed cap).

Maybe I should be thinking about an alarm system for my tow rig? Complete with switches for the bed?
