2005 Unlimited sport LJ. 200k miles, owner says new engine and trans 20k miles ago with paperwork. 6” lift and 35s.

I have always wanted an LJ, is $12.5k over priced?

Overpriced? Yeah. Worth it to YOU? depends.

Take a sharp Phillips head with you. Poke the bottom corner of the frame from the front lower control arms all the way back to where the frame curves up to the coil mounts.

If you don't get this

Then you can start negotiotions

If you sink the screwdriver, start at $4k

I never really understood the question 'is a vehicle overpriced'. 1) Do you want it, yes or no? If the answer is yes then the question becomes 2) do you have enough cash to buy it. If the answer to both of those questions is yes, who cares if you over pay a couple grand over the life of ownership. I have several vehicles I'd put a personal premium on for the chance of ownership that most folks wouldn't.

Fair point and I share a similar mentality.

However; I recently started looking and I really don’t NEED one and there really isn’t many for sale to compare. Before I go spend X amount of cash, I would like others opinions which may sway me to hold off and see what else hits the market. Maybe I’m crazy, to each their own

Seems high to me and will likely to others, NC4x4 is really the land of cheap asses. Imo that looks more like a 8-10k Jeep depending on how well it's built. I dig that color though, same color as the first Jeep I went and looked at. Funny thing is I think they was 12k-ish too.

Those pictures aren't much to go on. With "new" drivetrain it doesn't seem too bad to me. Offer less and see where it goes.

There are people on LJNation and LJ Owners FB groups that would say they bought identical for $5k and others would say its worth $18k...

Seems high to me, but the LJ always pulls a premium....with how many "I don't NEED it" statements you added, it sounds to me like it's a pass.
I only toss that verbage in when it is too silly cheap to not bring it home....NOT when I think it is overpriced but still want it.

FWIW, before the world ended a guy offered me his Rubicon LJ, 4" lift, 100k miles for $14k.....too Rich for me right now....but deals are out there.

I think you need to speak with @sammi_davis
Before you go look at it.
HaHa , but I do know the Jeep pretty well . Its pretty clean and does indeed have what appears to be a newish driveline. The paperwork is in the glovebox for the transmission and engine. A good friend of mine went through it and it is mechanically solid with the bugs worked out of it .

I see he is in Eden, this Jeep is also in Eden.o_O
It's a pretty nice LJ.

Offer $10k and if he doesn’t take it then it wasn’t meant to be.
It won’t go for that , I’m thinking 11,900 is the bottom dollar. I may be wrong but I have a pretty good idea of what the owner has in it. And it’s not mine and I haven’t owned it in the past , it’s just been local to me for a while.

I sold 2 2004 lj's about 1 1/2 years I got 12,500.00 for one and 9500.00 the other one both had salvage titles. Both had lifts and lights and nice wheels on them. !2,500.00 is at the top of the value range. If it was me looking for a lj and was going to keep it and it is solid i would consider the price. You cant built that lj for that price if you buy a stock lj and do the mods to it. I don't mind paying up for something i want for me and i will keep it for a long while. Look at the frame good and drive the crap out of it to check it out. Good luck.

As recent as 2-3 years ago that LJ would not have lasted 5 minutes for $12,500. JK popularity blew up TJ and LJ prices. It's waned a bit now so you may be able to find another at a reasonable price.

It's a Jeep. It's over priced.
and over rated
That's like saying women are complicated and infuriating

Duh...but your other choice for both is some fake blowup doll or standing there with your dick in your hand. Choosing the real deal in both cases may mean getting screwed, but for those 11.5 seconds it feels great :flipoff2:

You've had a lot of good posts through the years, but I'm pretty sure this is my favorite.

And to add something constructive I want an LJ as well...keep looking for the right one...havent found it yet.
For me that the engine and trans had to be replaced...I wonder what sort of deferred maintenance exists elsewhere

Add me to that list of I want an LJ. It's what us XJ guys try and create when we go 4 link rear IMHO... As for engine transmission replacement could that not be known issues for the years the LJ was out. So I'm curious what year it is and weather it's an auto or manual...?
