I need to spray a couple of boat trailers and other projects around here and need a decent spray gun.
Currently I have a el cheapo HF 9.99 gun but looking for something a little better but not a super high end unit. Really looking to spend around $100-$150. Also looking for something that will spray most everything (primer, base, and clear).
I have been shopping around but quickly noticed that I know nothing about paint guns. Also need help with spray tip size.
What do you guys suggest, and I am trying to stay away from cans with little balls in the bottom.:huggy:
Thanks
Mike

Lowes Has a kobalt spray gun. I use it for primer but would work for base and clear. It is silver with a blue trigger and has a white cup with a blue lid. It sprays well for the price.

i would suggest getting a gun for primer....and getting a gun for base/clear......

X2 and primer gun can be cheaper gun.. just make sure you sand after you spray primer

I have a gun for primer or spraying rustoleum, then another gun for good paint/clear, then I also now have 2 bed liner spray guns.. you never know which will work best for your application :)

if you want a real good gun then get a SATAJet

ahhhhhh sorry made a little mess there, got too excited....the digitals are AWESOME...SATA makes a GREAT product, sprays well, cleans well.....the price tag is on up there tho....i used to spray with one and love it. It def spoiled me, no other gun seems the same now

I had a gift card and bought one of these. I plan on using it for just such projects, chassis', brackets, suspension parts, axles... If I remember correctly it has a large tip for high solid paints or primers where you want coverage rather than finish.

Yes like I said I use it for primer but I have used it for base and clear and it works ok you just have to move a little faster. But if someone needs a cheep gut for ocasional use it will work well because it sprayes well for the price.

Almost any HVLP gun will work. If you use the same gun just buy different nozzles for paint primer and clear.

The problem with using the same gun is when you are painting a nice shiny black paint and a small flec of grey primer flys out. oh boy what fun is to be had.

That is why you clean the gun between the time you spray the primer and the time you spray the base.

Sorry guys kinda lost this tread...

Turns out that I ran out of time before these posts and bought a IR HVLP gun from Tractor Supply. I looked around and the quality of the IR seemed to trump everything else under $150. I ended up paying $109.99.

My results so far have been good for my first real spray job but I have learned a ton. Yes a primer gun would be great or at least a 1.7-2.0 tip (mine is a 1.4). I ended up thinning the primer a little more then suggested. I know I said I was paintng a trailer, but this is for my race boat that spends a lot of time on the trailer and needs to look good.

I still have to spray the paint but the learning curve is in my favor now.
