I'll try to keep this short, my brother served 10.5 years in the Navy with most of his time on the U.S.S. Enterprise. During his time in the Navy he had rotator cuff surgery twice on the same shoulder and split a knee cap on the deck of the ship. After the Navy put him out 8 years ago he took jobs doing industrial maintenance in several different plants and finally found himself working in the ship yard on aircraft carriers. during his few years with the ship yard, he tore his shoulder again and had to have miniscus surgery twice. During this he hit rock bottom and contemplated suicide which put him in the VA hospital for several weeks. When he was released, the ship yard said they didn't have any light duty and would not let him come back to work but also wouldn't lay him off. He is currently living in Jacksonville Florida out of his Dodge Durango with no work. I have helped to the point that it hurts and hate to see my brother, who has been so strong when I've needed him, homeless and helpless. I do have to say, he has grown spiritually in the past few months and he is learning to turn to God for his help instead of trying to do everything on his own. He finally filed for his disability from the Navy and was rated at the VA but they have been dragging their feet with starting his payments (for a few years now). Below is a list of things that would help him out and if you contact me, I'll give you his phone number and info or I can find a way to get items to him.
He has a list of things he could use to help him get back on his feet:
1. Prayers - These always tend to help!
2. Socks - size 15 feet.
3. Old camper trailer or RV that is at the very least rebuildable NO LONGER NEEDED! Provided by aunt
4. Work - he is very talented and while he can't do alot of physical labor, he would be good behind a parts counter or something similar. His Navy time was spent as an electrician and in a calibration lab for a few years. He has worked on cars all of his life as well. Anyone with a Jacksonville job connection?
5. Groceries - canned foods and things that won't spoil or gift cards to grocery stores (Publix/Walmart/Winn-Dixie)
I am grateful if all this post does is provide more prayers. My name is Donny Ackerman and you can reach me at 828-606-3759 or pm me here.
