Had a great honor to be part of the laying of the wreath at the unknown soldier.

This was my favorite part of our DC trip.

We went in 8th grade. My 7th and 8th grade History teacher was a HUGE Civil War buff and even took part in several reenactments. Our trip happened to fall on a rainy day when we went to Arlington. Everybody was griping and complaining about the rain until all of the sudden, Mr Jones said, "It's raining on all of us equally, but there is one person who is not complaining. (meaning the soldier on guard who was getting pelted by rain) Let's honor him and his fallen brothers by also not complaining."

There wasn't a sound after that.

My daughter is on her 8th grade field trip to DC this week. I think Arlington was on there agenda for today. I will find out tonight when she calls.

Arlington was one of my favorite stops when we went to DC. We were lucky enough to see a wreath ceremony while we where there. I'm sure those kids will remember that for the rest of their lives. What was their wreath for?

I went to DC in 8’th grade. I remember they took us to a play (don’t remember the play). I remember they took us to the Smithsonian Museum (it was crowded and we were rushed but I liked what I saw). The one thing that stood out to me, and I remember to this day and I’m 50 now, was when we watched the changing of the guard at the Unknown Soldier.
