I'm interviewing for a position in Raleigh and wanted to get a feeling for where to look/not look for houses in the area. This all of course depends on getting the job and then if they want me to move closer instead of working from home. They have a corporate office in Raleigh, but have a branch in Woodleaf.

What I'm looking for:
No more than a 30-45 minute drive
1600-1800 square feet, one story
2 car garage (preferably larger than my current one)
No HOA
Not in the city limits
A couple of acres of land would be great

To compare to what I have now:
20-30 minute drive depending on traffic
~2400 square feet, 2 story w/ finished walk-out basement
20'x20' 1.5 car garage (they say 2, but that would never happen)
No HOA
Recently annexed into the city limits
0.25 acres

Wycliff Road; along 440 between Wade Ave & Glenwood Ave. About 10 miles from Raleigh Durham Int'l Airport.

Wake Forest - 'Some' are no HOA (where i am) the guide lines are 20 (or more) built by the same builder.

We have 19 house. And man i check out others,
"lets me see the HOA"
"what page",
"all of them, i guess"
"id rather not copy an entire book"
"what?"

Now that said, Ive got some 'odd' neighbor...
They make me look like an angle.

are you looking to rent or buy?

I'm no where near an angel...my neighbors know I'm a redneck (used a torch 'til 11pm one night, welding, plasma, trailer parked beside the house, etc.), but I try to keep my stuff nice looking.

Wake forest would put you right at the 30 min mark for travel time. Cary and Apex would be about the same travel time. That area north, northwest and northeast raleigh is a good place to be.

Good luck with finding a basement. They are not common in this area, usually construction is crawl space or concrete slab.

Don't have to have a basement (I like it since its cool in the summer), the main driving factor for my house now was it was a foreclosure that I've fixed up.

You should have said that sooner... Johnston County for you. :D

I always say rent until you find what you want. Get to know Raleigh (and surrounding) before planting your roots. But you'll always find something better the day after you sign a deed...

Tuff market around here. Housing is up 41% so the good ones are scarce.

That's always an option, a house 0.5 miles from mine is outside of the city limits, 1/2 an acre, half the backyard is concrete for parking (less mowing) and has a highbay shop with 2 post lift. That one was under contract when I looked at the one I'm in...always wish I would've seen it earlier!

Yeah, then don't even waste your time in Cary or Apex.

Garner, WF, or out on the north side toward 98 and/or Briar Creek... but you're pushing +30mins for all of the above. But they're about to close the south side of 440 for ~2yrs... and once that happens, good luck getting anywhere on the south or east side of town during rush hour.
