How to handle this…

Tell em to get the F off your car (less politely than last time) and if they don't listen or it happens again, then tell them to get the F off your property.

I can be a asshole if I really need to be, but I don’t want to be. I tend to try to be friendly and nice to everyone in my neighborhood. I am the guy that if the HOA really wanted to could make my life miserable with working on stuff in driveway and wrecked jeeps in my back yard. My wife was born and raised in this neighborhood and it’s only place she wants to live.

Car is a 2020 Subaru Outback.

Not sure where the family lives. The literally walk just to play in my neighbors leaves. Then turn around and go back in the direction they come from. If they were on my property I’d just pick up the leaves and call it a day. The kid playing in the leaves isn’t the problem so I don’t want to sabotage the leaves or do anything to my car. I’m going to try the car panic button next time then try talking to them again. If that doesn’t work we will try something else.
Also, congrats on the Subaru. I didn't know you were a lesbian. :flipoff2:

Express your concern that there could be a snake or something in the leaf pile.

If that doesn't work put a rubber snake in the leaf pile.

If that doesn't work put a real s..... never mind that might be a step too far.

Is the car in your driveway or on the road? I would start by "asking" them politely one more time, if that doesn't work I would either move the car (I know you shouldn't have to) Or.... Be super creepy and go sit/lean next to them and watch.... Just have some good responses ready when they start getting weird. Something like "did you find everything ok?" Or "have you seen the one with the dog that runs out of the house and into the leaf pile?" Hell maybe even bring them a warm beer and just pretend like you are old friends, ask how there day is, how's work, how's your parents doing?.

Now if it's in your driveway (private property) and given that you told them once already I would probably get really fucking pist and have them charged with trespassing.

I’m a direct and candid guy.

‘Hey ma’am look I know this may sound abrasive and I apologize for that but I don’t know how to handle this any other way. I’m particular about my car, it might not seem special to you but it is to me. I don’t like folks leaning on my car because buttons and rivets on clothes can scratch the paint and I’m super picky and sort of a perfectionist about it. That’s why I asked you previously not to lean on my car, and I see you didn’t respect my request so I’m just wondering if you didn’t understand why I asked or if you were intentionally just trying to disrespect me. ‘

That said in a neutral tone, if possible, would get the point across

yep. Then see what needs to happen next with the leaves or not.

"I'm kind enough to let you all over to enjoy my leaf pile. One last time I'll ask you not to lean on my car while your kid plays in the pile. If it happens again, you won't be allowed back over.
You're welcome to make a leaf pile in your own yard too, you know."

You need a pressure switch in the car that sets off a loud horn inside the leaf pile to scare the kid.

That way its their fault, not yours.

I would just take a mental note of them doing that and save it for when you are cutting a donor parts truck apart in the driveway with an angle grinder or concrete saw at night you bust out "remember when you cocks were leaning on my car and I didn't say shit, now fawk off and go back inside and don't you dare calls the HOA/COPS/local karen" when they complain about the noise.

I think its pretty obvious they don't care. People who are particular enough to not like it when people lean on their cars generally will not to it to others' as well.

IME most people who do stuff like this are entitled to the point they feel they can do what they want.
They don't want you to lean on theirs, but it's ok for them to lean on yours.

This is why I rarely take any of my rides to car shows. People have no respect / clueless how to treat other's property. I don't care if it's my 07 JKU that's covered in dents and scratches from use - it's not your vehicle don't touch it.

Car is in my driveway probably 25 feet from the road. Tree with the pile of leaves is halfway between the two but over about 7 feet. Plan is to talk to them again today when the come. I really like @Ron approach so I’m going to go that route.

I was thinking to find out where they live... and start dumping the leaves in their yard. start with taking the leaves at your house, and then escalate with collecting all the bags in the neighborhood, and going over at night and emptying them all out in their front yard. If they dont seem to care, then send the HOA a letter about the mess of leaves in their yard.

Honestly I think most people just don't know or realize it could be a problem. If you've never owned a car where you were meticulous about the paint, when would it come up?

Just like coasters on wood furniture. I have friends that literally never had furniture that was water damageable or that anybody was concerned about scratching or water marks, so they never used coasters or learned it was a thing.

Yeah, to that, it seems that the days of parents teaching their kids these things are out the window as well. But to your point, maybe they dont know? I know that we are constantly on our kids about not touching other peoples cars, or be careful when they open doors, etc. Doesnt always stop everything, but hopefully they will hear it enough for it to sink in when they are older.

I knew by the age of 4 never to put my hands on a car...ANYBODY'S car.

You learn REAL damn quick when you're at a car show as a kid...."PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK AND LEAN OVER"

And Lord have mercy on the dumbass neighbor kid that hopped up on the hood of Pappa Dave's Jag....Holy shit I never saw a grown man's head do a full 360 while steam come out of his ears

that's bc you had a parent that took you to car shows. Clearly they were "car folks".

A LOT of people don't have that and just don't know that scratches, smudges etc can happen easily AND bother people. I know lots of people for whom a car is just a means to get around and a mystery device that you pay somebody else to fix.
I try not to fault people for being ignorant about things because of lack of experience.

Of course once you've politely educated them - ignorance is no longer an excuse.

I have a wife like that...hashtagsadpanda
