How's your morning going?

Up at 630...had two 26' UHAul trucks by 730. One filled by noon. Other one half full now. And I'll echo everyone else...hot as balls with chance of swamp ass. 109* with the heat index.

Got the bike prepped and gear loaded for tomorrow's race at Brushy. Hiding in the AC and hydrating for tomorrow. More stuff to do tonight once it cools off then some good ol short track racing at Orange County Speedway.

oh were to begin...got a call last night at 6:30 about a water leak at a gentleman's house roughly 5 miles or so from my house. Spent till 8 riding around, checking on it's severity, calling it in to be located by this morning at 9,going back over to put down white paint and flag it for the locating services. Ugh...only the foreman and his offspring will come in.No problem,I'll change MY plans for the day and get it done.Short water tap, shouldn't take but a few hours to replace.
We meet at the office at 8 this morning.Arrive on site around 8:30.Then the job falls apart. Water system was privately owned when first put in back in the early 70s. The local water districts bought the little systems when they formed in the early 90s. No plans,no as-builts , nobody around that worked the little systems. We fly in these subdivisions blindly trying to do repairs.
Location of the leak is at a spot where the 6 inch water main crosses the street diagnally from one side to the other. The short tap now becomes a long tap.Oh,let me back up. The leak is at the meter box where the 3/4 inch service tubing has become brittle with age and has split under the angle stop at the meter.Another thing, when these taps were put in,they either went straight to the main
and tied in with a saddle or (here is the kicker) if the tap was installed when the main was first installed, the cuffs at the joints had holes drilled and taped for the corp stop to screw in. In other words, no fucking idea where in the hell the corp. stop is gonna be with in 20 to 30 feet either side of where the meter box lines up.If it's a short tap,you can trace the line back to where it ties to the main.Long tap, gotta force a fish tap in and run it as far as it will go and then trace it with a cable locator.
Pulled an executive decission and said fuck it. Ain't got enough help anyhow to pull off what is gonna be an extensive search and destroy mission in just finding the main much less the tap. Luck did smile enough for me to get a temp piece of pipe installed so he could have water the rest of the weekend and I can get a full crew out there and knock it out correctly.
I got home around 1 and have been on the couch sleepin. My loading table is behind me here in the living room and I believe I'll crank out a bunch of .45 colt rounds and save cutting grass till closer to dark.

Well, not as bad as yours. Busting out some parts.

Whatcha makin?

I was out at 8 working on house preping for paint. I'm on a scaffold about 12 feet up when my 93 year old mother calls informing me she has a-fib and on the way to ER. I finish current repair and break down scaffold so I can get car out of garage. Made it to Nags Head in 2 1/2 hours. Mom's okay, take her home, now I'm drinking a beer at Sam & Omies and having shrimp and crabmeat dinner. Not what I planned but everything turned out good

Woke up around 8am, didn't get up til about 9, turned AC off unzipped a few Windows to let the breeze thru, shitter was full pulled the tank took to dump station cleaned it out, reinstalled, washed up, made breakfast, chilled for awhile, went to bath house showered, then wife, dog and I headed south to ferry terminal. Cruised around Ocracoke for a bit, ate lunch, got feet wet on beach, now heading back to camper to chill and make dinner, north bound on ferry... A good day

Stared at the 'manche the last two hours. Only 92 in the shop. Cracked all the doors a foot, turned the fans on to pull a breeze. Sitting in the ac now with Mattix. I'll be in the shop at 10pm, work till sunrise.

You do that just to avoid the heat? I like the idea, but i wouldn't make it past midnight due to my M-F schedule, lol.

Oh yeah. My brain works better after 10 anyway. Most of my progress happens long after midnight, anytime of year. I usually function on about 4 hours of sleep daily, with maybe one catchup day mixed in somewhere.

Pretty nice place, reasonably clean
We're in the woods, so a bit mosquitoy, they did come thru with a fogger Thurday night, too breezy tonight and last night
We are on a water/electric site, 30/20amp power quiet, no real close neighbors this time, but the potential is there.
They sell beer at the camp store, not a lot of other real goods, ice, chips, soda, some over priced camping stuff, t-shirts.
I'd come back again

Updates in the am....

What's the cycle time on those guys? What kind of machines do you run? I program and run a 5-axis dmg at a tool and die shop with a little aerospace on the side.
I work in a prototype lab making our own stuff. The quantities are small, so I don't worry about nit picking cycle times. It's pretty long, but there are 5 ops for each of the 4 different parts. I just program the quickest way I can get it up and running. I have a Haas Vf2 3 axis. They are a 3+2 part all day long and i'm sure that's how they will be made if they go to production. You have a nice machine there. I would kill to have a 5 axis to run. When I came here, it was to program and run a Thermwood 5 axis router. Then I had a chance to get in the lab.

"hot as balls with a chance of swamp ass" I literally laughed out loud on that one.

Took my oldest to the tractor pull last night, after about 30 minutes there I looked like a drowned rat I am sure...
