I Am An 18%er

I bet the greenies will come up with a manual transmission tax soon enough.

Both of my dd's are straight drive. My 15 year old daughter will be able to drive them by January!

I've had since 16 years old: 83 ranger 4 speed, 93 mustang 5 speed, 99 mustang 5 speed, and my old 03 f250 6 speed. I still have a 67 Fairlane GT 4 speed, and my wheeling rig is a 78 f150 with a granny 4 speed.

Unfortunately Ford and Chevy dropped the manual transmissions so my DD is a 2016 f250, the first automatic I've owned. Although I like the Cummins, I'm not a big Chrysler fan if it's newer than mid 70s, and the new dodge manuals don't have the same power as all three manufacturers auto trucks. Damned if I'm going to pay that much for a truck and not get the same power, LOL.

Been there......

When I bought my Jeep Patriot the one thing I would not compromise on was it had to be a manual transmission, lol. Oh and 4wd too.

When driving without doors or top I tell my wife not to worry I've got the anti theft device aka the clutch

Same here, not many thugs know how to drive one.

A teacher at my school asked a student to move a truck out of the shop. The student got in and told the teacher the truck had two brake pedals. Needless to say that student did not move the truck!

When I was in auto shop in highschool in the mid 90s the teacher asked someone to pull out an old Chevy truck. He couldn't find reverse and had never seen "an automatic with a clutch pedal". I found out that day I was the only one besides the teacher that could drive a three on the tree, also the only one who had even heard of it.

I learned to drive on a 1966 GMC with a three on tree. My dad said if I could learn to drive that I could drive almost anything.

Did some work on my dads 76 MG the other day.... took my son (4) for a little ride afterwards. He saw me shifting gears and asked me what I was doing. I told him and he asked if I would teach him. I explained that not only would he learn but I would not buy him a car/truck until he did. He was happy with that!

Then he asked grandpa if he could have the MG lol

Around when my son was 7 or 8 he started asking a lot of questions about how things worked. One day he asked about the car transmission. After I explained it he was really curious about the process of shifting gears, so I showed it to him. After that I started telling him to tell me when it was time to shift, and what gear I was going into. Didn't take long for hi mto get good at recognizing the time based just on the sound/feel, sicne he couldn't really see the tach.

Once he was big enough to ride in the front of my car, I started letting him shift the gears for me with his left hand when toodling around town.
Sadly now he'd rather try to take a nap, lol.
