Looks like Di' Oh' Gi' (pronounced DOG) isn't doing well . He's 10+ years old .Having pets sucks. Just another heartache .

Sorry to hear that buddy.

Just think, you could get a bird, like a white cockatoo. They have a lifespan of 40-60 years. Then you don't have to worry about outliving the pet.

But can't be left alone for a weekend with buckets of water and kibble... basically have to be treated like infants (put up for the night, taken out in the AM, fed a few times/day)

Yeah...
Having had more than one take it's last breath while I'm holding them in my arms balling my f*n eyes out, that is a brutal brutal, and on top of that, brutal thing to live through.
What keeps me going is to know that I gave them a much better life than what was staring them in the face before I walked in. Strays, rescues, etc. Guardian angels exist.

Our younger dog was diagnosed with cancer a couple of weeks ago. Has a growth in his abdomen. Now affecting his back legs and he's having a lot of trouble getting up and walking, particularly on the hardwood floors. I just carried him outside, set him down on the sidewalk in the sitting position, then he was able to get up and go pee in the yard and come back inside.
Tried to go upstairs...got up about 3 steps and his back legs gave out and he slid back down. That was sad to watch.
I reckon the day is coming sooner rather than later. Only 6 years old.

I'm feeling your pain.. Dog is very cool. It sucks getting old.

He died in the living room this afternoon. Had a seizure while I was literally on the phone with the mobile vet to get her to come out today and put him down. Was better this way, but hard on the family. Godspeed to everyone else who is dealing with this.

I hate it for you but at least you were there with him. Hope you can find some peace.

I had to have 3 put down in the last 5 years. All labs, two yellow labs, one chocolate lab. All between the ages of 14 and 16. I still have 2, a pit bull and a black lab. All were rescues in one way or another. They either wondered up nearly starved to death, or previous owners couldn't keep them. They have all give me joy in my life. But, just like a kid, everything I do, I work around them needing out, or needing fed. If I go off wheeling, I am lucky, I leave them with my daughter and son, who take very good care of them. If I am a position to choose the next one, I will choose a smaller one I think, just for the ease of taking it with me more places.
I myself, do no regret taking a single one of them in.

I told my wife as much fun and how much I love dogs... I will never get another one anytime soon. It is amazing how attached we become to them. I really feel for anyone who is having to go through this. We put our little girl down march 2017, and I still get teary eyed when I see a picture of her or find one of the many toys she hid around the house. I cried more when we put Chloe down than I did when my own grandfather passed away. I think I said this in another thread. If you need a good cry about it. go on youtube and type in "Jimmy Stewart reads: I'll always love a Dog name Beau"

So I'm laying here tonight for the final time with my dog. The vet will be here around 2pm to put him down . I've dug the grave. I'm so sad. He's in misery. I'm gonna miss him.

Just remember they are always in our hearts. If it was up to @jeepin' jen we would have all animals left at the shelter. But knowing we treat them as part of the family and give them a better chance at life is what it's all about. For us are animals are our children and we do live life around them, couldn't even think about life without pets. From the look in their eyes when you come home or when they cuddle with you when your down. It's just something that brings life into everything we do.
