so i went to rdu today to catch my flight to sarasota and i was taking one carry-on, my book bag, and a small suit case that was going in the cargo hold. i get to the metal detectors and the xray and send my book bag through and then they asked if i had a lap top in it so i had to take that out and send it back through. went through again and they decided that wasnt enough, and this is like 3 minutes before my flight departs because they put me on an earlier flight out. so it goes through a total of 4 times before they finally decide they are gonna search it. well come to find out it was my bathroom travel bag inside my book bag that was throwing them off. they went through it, and of course i made sure there werent any razors or scissors in it, and they pulled out some bottles out that were in it they had medicine in them and then they let me go. needless to say i made it to the gate right when they were loading my section.

stupid airport :flipoff2:

I got my stuff searched in General Mitchell Airport (Milwakuee WI) because my licence is beat to hell and back...

Im the whitest person youve ever seen.

haha i mean i am white, i got shaggy hair and i was wearing polo, nautica and some top siders. i mean i dont know how much whiter i can get. i just thought it was funny that they had to send my book bag through the xray 4 times before they decided to stop wasting my time and search it. i should have just started wackin out and screaming "there's a bomb in the bag"

haha i am sure that wouldnt have gotten me arrested

Maybe you should get to the airport 2 hrs early like they ask and read the rules about putting things in clear plastic bags for them to see what you have.. you would be surprised how much easier it is to get threw airports when you follow they few rules they have..

I have a close friend that installs medical equipment and travels by air almost every wk. He is 6'2" and about 220lbs with a shaved head. He dresses nice and knows all the rules from experience. He gets searched nearly EVERY time. In the 3 yrs of doing this he can count on his hands and tell you where he hasn't gotten searched. He's pretty cool about it but none of us can seem to understand what gets him every time.

well i got to the airport 3 hours early and the line was backed way up and my flight had got delayed and wasnt supposed to leave until 8:45 but when i got to the counter the lady switched me into an earlier flight into charlotte and i had like 10 minutes to get to the gate to catch it. i had completely forgotten about the whole liquids in a clear bag thing but it was clear that the containers were medicine. so i pretty much followed the rules, just kinda forgot about the liquids one. i think thats because last summer when i flew down for one of my tournaments they didnt have that rule... idk

yeah it would have been cool... then i could have quoted some lines from meet the parents and what not. dont think my parents would have been too happy though and i dont want to go to jail... no telling what they do to skinny white boys in there :(

must be a profile thing I'm 6'3" , 240 and the last 4 times I've flown , got yanked out of line for a screening. Thank god I didn't stash any lefties in my shoe.

Throw me in there I am 6'0 and 250 and they search me every time.
Sit down remove the shoes the whole nine yarsd

your suppose to remove your Shoes and put them in the tray. if you don't then you will be searched.

I travel quite a bit and even over sea's and I match the 6' 250 profile. but I do aways follow the directions. the only time I get search is when I have one way ticket or a very recent change to the ticket I had. I have been random searched 2 times and never because of my carry on Items.

Well guy's GET USED TO IT this is how it is after 9\11 what do you expect would you rather see another plane explode I fly allot to do startups on machines & yes the security is a little anel but I am glad of it if it keeps another American alive so this is how it is if you don't like FAWKIN drive:driver:

Unfortunately, most all of the security everywhere is "for show". Even at airports, there are so many back-door ways to do things, that screening passengers is a joke.

Last year, I had to take my dad to the ER at UNC-CH. They have a medical detector at the entrance. I was ready for it, all I had was cell phone and car keys, laid them on the counter walked thru, and it went off. I told the "guard" I had on steel toe boots....he let me right thru without wanding or any other verification.

But...if it makes the people feel better...

i go on planes a few times a year and i have never once been searched but i guess its just the rules thing...or the fact that im only 5'9" and 140lb i mean really wut the hell could i do anyway....lol...but i am glad that security has tightened since 9/11 but i dont think that the problem is gonna be with the passengers they need to watch the mechanics closer thats where the problem will be if there is another one with aircraft atleast i believe

The shoes thing is correct, I was thinking before they were take off.
They still rub the bottom of your feet.
And it has nothing to do with following the rules. When you get in the line for teh detector way before you remove your shoes. They look at your boarding pass and either give me a red card or show e the other line real quick.

Btw I am 37 of 38 since 9/11.
Only time I wasnt pulled was coing back from Miami on the below mentioned trip.

And as to the damn metal detectors, lotta good they do. Last trip, my wife packed my crap and running out the door I grabbed 2 pair of shorts and threw them in the bag for lounging at the hotel.
Get to Miami unpack slide on said shorts andd my fiching knife was in the pocket. Its a browning grizzly, 3 blades about 6" with a gut hook and a bone saw.

This was in a carry on bag :shaking:

Whatever makes you feel safe I guess....

I used to fly every week and I almost always had some kind of junk food in my carry-on. One morning as I was leaving home I grabbed a jar of peanut-butter because it sounded good. Ran my bag through the x-ray, got searched. On the way back home I still had the jar of peanut-butter, got searched.
So I did a test. Everytime I carried a jar of peanut-butter, I got searched. The only other times were when I changed flights at the ticket counter.

Peanut butter is very dense, x-ray does not pass through it well. My guess is they see a big dark spot and that sends up a flag.

"back in the day" I had a friend in college that would carry his pot in a jar of peanut butter for just this reason. Extra bonus is you get to lick peanut butter off of your stash later, hahaha.
Oh I'm pretty sure he's in jail now, too.

9 times out of 10 I get pulled if I'm flying alone. I think that has more to it than anything.

Funny thing is the one time I didn't get searched...when my girlfriend flew with me... We got to our 1st stop to switch planes and she pulls out her mace that I got her and is holding it up asking me if they should have let her on the plane with it. I quickly made her put it back in her purse before anyone saw it. I didn't want to see what kind of trouble that would have caused! I'm sure you aren't supposed to take those things...they could be used as a weapon...and it went through the x-ray undetected.

you know for the most part you can tell if you're going to get searched before you ever get to the line...

down near the bottom right corner you'll see a big S...it's "supposed" to be randomly generated, but last minute changes, etc, will also trigger it...

you can be prepared to get pulled out of line before you ever actually get in line...

100% of the time I've been searched, the S has been there...and I'm 6', 220lbs, white with very short haircut, so the stereotyping continues...:)

frequenty in a BellSouth uniform with random electronic parts in my briefcase...my bag tends to go through a couple times before they're satisfied...

but, I approach the line with shoes off, jacket off, laptop out...once you know the rules, it's really a quick process...

its just part of flying. i travel through a dozen airports a month and i always see people getting all bent out of shape when they get pulled. get over it. its just how things are done these days.

i can't confirm the "S" on the ticket thing, but i do think there is a market on some tickets and i also think airport sercurity personnel can pick at random.

best thing to do is remove the shoes, belt, and watch and hope for the best.

I always just follow the rules, IE: shoes off, jakcet off , belt off, etc.. I never get pulled out of line ( luck ) but if i did, it is not a big deal I have nothing to hide..( so I thought )

But the bad news is I do know how to get things threw without them knowing/realizing...( that scares me ) reason I know is I did it by accident and could not believe it got threw.

I did not even realize It was there until I got to destination.. worst part is I have done it a few times...

Very glad I honeslty forgot about it, cause I am sure my facial reactions would have given me up..Makes we wonder what else gets threw everyday?

It's hit or miss I guess.

I snuck a Key Lime pie onto my plane in Miami and no one asked what was in the bag.
I thought the metal pie tin would give it away when it went through the scanner.

Maybe it didn't fall under the "liquid or gel" catagory....

The S is there depending on airline.
I think Americna uses it..hell cant remember. But one definiteely does.

We really dont want to hear about you "muling" shotguns ok? Just sounds too painful

i've had easy access to baggage, offices w/ computer terminals, and even the runway doing renovation work at rdu. since 9/11. they make you carry around a security badge, but that's it. no other screening, etc.

unless things have changed, it would be possible to bring pretty much anything you wanted in and transfer it to a random bag, onto a plane at a gate, etc.

i'm just dreading the next time i have to fly now that i have one rod and four screws in my legs.

Great job.
The DHS will be visiting you at home shortly for starting this prior to your next flight. :D
This REALLY is one off those topics that we're all getting the rubber glove treatment next time we fly for. :(

My only "awkward" moment came from having the laptop case on a factory floor beside a waveflow solder machine. Oops.
Evidently some of the trace chemicals they use aren't treated as "friendly" by the little swab test.
Bad part was this was PRIOR to 9/11. (9/7/01 in fact) They swab it, little red light flashes and it buzzes. Girl doing it looked at me, kind of puzzled and scared. I laughed, and said, "That's probably not going to bode well for me catching the earlier flight is it?"
2 hours later, and now using a plastic bag from a news stand I was sprinting through the Milwaukee airport to make my original flight. They had to cut out ALL of the padding in my laptop case to check it, plus dismantled my laptop. It sucked. But they were friendly. And laughing.
I doubt it would have been as friendly the week after.
