Since the good people deserve an update… I acquired a bar of hardened 4142 but my edm guy fell through. Working on Plan B.

To perfectly match the sharp corner radius I suppose. Not necessary, but certainly a nice touch.

Negligible benefit of tighter tolerances really. Not strictly necessary. I’d be glad to get this to one of you guys with a mill to machine the slot. Or I can take it down to our tech center in Mebane and mill it. Or Matt can probably do it in-house. I can probably scrounge up an end mill if needed.

Why edm?

Why not Wire EDM or Broach.
I'm sure machining a rough Semi and finish carbon would be a hell of a lot more than milling it out of steel. Plus having and running an EDM on top of the milling of the carbon.

Hell you might want to try sintering one. or 3D welding one I'm sure one of the Aerospace manufactures would make one for you this way.

I mean I weren't joking a couple weeks ago, this is the socket out of 4140ph. The oval is just wider since don't know where the sharp corners are on the part. It's 12.89mm between the flats.
