Our family dog died suddenly last night. He was a 7 year old Boxer/Bull Mix.
My wife, her dad, our 19 month old daughter, and our 2 dogs went for a walk in the neighborhood and the Boxer got off his leash somehow and got into a little scuffle with a neighborhood dog. After the smoke cleared and they pulled the dogs apart everything was fine, but about 5 minutes later our dog started stumbling and then fell over dead. I did a little research and discovered that some boxers have heart issues and sometimes the only symptom is sudden death. He has always been a happy-go-lucky dog with no health issues. He was GREAT with our daughter (like most boxers are). And was very friendly. After we got home from putting him in the ground, my daughter went wondering through the house saying his name and looking for him.
My wife is taking it extremely hard and I even teared up a little while I was digging the hole last night.

So if you pray, please pray for her.

Digging holes of any kind sucks. Digging that kind of hole must be really, really hard. Sorry for your loss, and best of luck to the family.

Hate to hear that. Painful memories as a read this. My boxer died suddenly last year after a similar incident. Out for a walk, saw a cat, pull in leash hard, got all worked up and excited. Stumbled around a few minutes after and then fell over. I done my best praying and doggy CPR and brought him back, but 8 days later he randomly had the same episode but did not survive. Vet said it was called Syncopy. Irregular heart beat common with boxers.
So sorry for your loss, prayers for you and the family.

Very sad, my black lab is getting up there in age and she is getting close to that time I fear. She is over 13 now and not doing great. My wife is going to be destroyed when it happens. We got her right after we got married and she is our first baby, my wife tears up even thinking about losing her. Many prayers sent your way, I know how it is buddy. :(

Prayers to you and your family

I've been in your shoes, my black lab passed away due to water in his lungs on Father's Day of 2011. He lived a long happy life as my good ol' pal, died at 14 years old. Prayers to you and your family from me, btw that picture is adorable man!

I lost my Boxer Gus about 4 years ago. I cried like a baby. I have another Boxer now and worry what it'll do to my wife when this Boxer dies. She is my wife baby. I haven't heard of this Syncopy issue. That sucks! Sorry to hear about you and your wife's loss.

Prayers for you and your family. I don't know what we would do if something happened to our boxer she is 12 and partially paralyzed but still acts like she is a puppy

Dang dude hate to hear it. That's crazy we were just talking yesterday about how Payton was riding around on ozzy. Let Lisa know I'm thinking of y'all. And will pray for you.

So sad to lose a good dog and having no warning is even more devastating. Our dog of 12 yrs, Brandy died a 4 months ago and my wife still cries now and then, I can do nothing to comfort her but hug her. We knew she was going away (cancer) and I thought about her leaving us for months so her death was a bit easier. I can't imagine having an apparently healthy dog die suddenly, so sorry for you and your family.
