Hey everybody...

I live in Florida right now, but I'm going to be moving up to North Carolina for graduate school in August. I've always spent alot of time on our 4x4 forums we have for our state, so I thought this would be a good place to come for advice on relocating.

So the first thing is the topic at hand... I've been accepted by both UNC and ECU and I'm having a hard time picking which offer to accept. I like ECU's specific program a little more but UNC has the better reputation as a whole.

By the way... I'm Keith. Thanks!

we need more chapel hill people. UNC is my vote, even though im not a fan

My undergraduate degree is in Psychology and I'll be in grad school for Rehabilitation Counseling Psych. I'll be visiting both schools between the 23rd and 26th of this month and I've got to make my final decision before May 1st.

Both of the programs are ranked highly nationally. UNC has more national recognition but ECU's program is ranked a bit higher. I kind of like that ECU is a little smaller but I'm not sure if I like the fact that it's kind of isolated.

I would say go to ECU cause its higher ranked, but if you do end up going to UNC I will have an apartment room available in Raleigh.

ECU is only good for a party and a std:lol:

i'm going there this weekend! can't wait! :fuck-you: :fuck-you:

you should go to the more accredited school no doubt. what school is better for YOUR needs and which would give you the best job opportunities and cash in the long run?

I wouldn't go to UNC b/c of the all the snobby ass prissy girls but that's just me. ECU would be more my style :) but thats just b/c it fits my lifestyle slightly better  then again, greenville sucks compared to chapel hill if you go into town.... BUT on the flip side CH traffic blows.

-Erik <--- will update this thread after my trip to ECU and the clinic on the following monday :)

HAHA X2. Go to UNC. Cant ask for a better college environment.

Better college environment? You're a moron.

I graduated from ECU and it is a fine school as several are in the state of NC. If ECU is ranked higher and you have gotten accepted, I would go there. The town is not as good as Chapel Hill I have to say. Everybody has their reputation for being a party school and let me tell you - ECU is it for NC, but UNC has just as many parties as well.

However, you're in graduate school and I am sure your priorities are in line. Depends on what's most important to you. If you have any questions, PM me.

...but as a hiring project manager... if someone dropped me 2 resumes with everything the same but one was ECU and was UNC... I would choose UNC over ECU. Never heard of ECU before I moved to NC. With some gov't contracts you have to put who works for and the college they went too... I would have a better chance of getting the contract because of the big name schools then I would little name schools.. even if they are more brilliant.

But thats IT & Gov't. then again if I was in rehab and I saw the UNC deploma on the wall... I would think rich dude... has no clue what Im going through... he just read it in a book. my twisted 2 cents :)

I agree with 100%

you will be surprised how much UNC is know more then ECU..

I would like to think that if you are hired into a "specific" field of work, the people hiring you would know which schools are getting it done.
My .02

 It appears that they're both on the same level (based on the previous posts) and as far as the surrounding towns are concerned, each has its own pros and cons. UNC would probably offer closer resources (i.e. 4x4 play, other colleges/ towns) for "free" time (If that exists in grad school). However, as a dirty, low-class marine-bio major:huggy: , I would go where the best faculty advisor was (If you head shrinkers have that sort of program:flipoff2: )

Absolutely. The people in the field will know what schools are the best, regardless of what the uneducated public will say. There's a reason we're ranked higher. True UNC has a more known name, but I would seriously consider someone coming from a higher ranked school. If they're both ranked high, I would look at both areas - both are good schools and I wouldn't take anything away from either of them. You're a lucky guy to choose between these schools.

Thanks for all the replies everybody.

I talked to the head of the Rehab Studies program here at the university where I did my undergraduate work and she didn't really know anything about either school, and actually she even said that she'd never heard of ECU at all. That kind of confirms my concern about ECU being unknown outside of the region.

Anyways... I booked my flight and a hotel near the airport in Raleigh. I'm going to spend one whole day checking out UNC and the next day at ECU. I think I'm leaning towards ECU since it seems to win out in most of the things I think are important. I'll make sure to let you know how it works out after I've been up there in person.

hey cool

I'll be moving up into the University Area of Charlotte.
Actually in another week.

Unfortunatly I'll be in an apartment and jobless but other than that I cannot wait to get back home.

Now If I can just convince the wife that tellico and uwharrie really arent THAT far away and a dedicated trail jeep would a kicka$$ idea

I've been in the state since Monday and my flgiht back home leaves tomorrow morning. I've seen both schools and at this point it looks like I'm leaning towards UNC. Greenville just seems a little to isolated for my taste and the program at UNC seems a little btter organized and more friendly.

I am going to look over everything again tomorrow on the trip home and make a decision.

The biggest downside to UNC is that it seems like having a vehicle in Chapel Hill would be more trouble and expense than it's worth. I'm not sure if I can handle living without a truck, but I'm not sure I'd be able to afford to live with it either...

I agree with strange1....
ECU has a growing reputation in the medical profession.
People in that profession should KNOW that...

My .02 worth also.

Chapel Hell is the most Liberal, left wing bitch and moan pit on this side of the Mississippi, however they do provide a good edumacation.

Good Luck either way.

I don't know what ECU is like now but back in the day I knew alot of people that attended, but very few that graduated. That place was voted the biggest party school on the east coast for years!
