I ordered a Banks Stinger kit (3-inch single exhaust, cold-air intake, and pyrometer). I wanted it for my 1990 6.2L Burb. In the ad I found on-line (from vender who I will leave un-named for now), it says it is for 1982-93 Chevy/GMC, it specifically references the "Early-Body Trucks" in the ad, and it shows a pic of the proper kit for my Burb (or a K5, or a 87-older truck). I told the vendor what the kit was for (1990 Burb), and they have a record of that. They said that the kit would only fit a 2-door (K5 or truck), and I said no prob, I can add a length of pipe if I need to. I specifically asked if it included all the parts in the pic, because I could see the "ram air" kit that I wanted in the pic, and they said "yes".

Got the kit this weekend, but when I opened it, I noticed that it is for 1988-1993 GM 1/2-ton pickups (IFS, new body style), so won't fit my Burb. It says this on the Banks packing slip, in the instruction manual, and I can see that the parts won't fit on my Burb, especially the air intake. I did not try to test fit the parts, did not get them dirty, just opened the box.

I called to straighten this out, but I am getting a lot of pushback. Turns out the kit that *would* have fit my Burb has been discontinued, so they can't exchange it. The vendor says that the kit I got was special order, and Banks will not take it back from them, and so I am stuck with it. I say they did not send me the part they advertized!

They are still discussing with Banks, so who knows what might happen, but after my previous converstations with them, I am *not* hopeful. I *will* be calling Banks about this if the vendor can't work it out, and I told the vendor that, to which they replied that Banks would not care, and would not take it back from me since I did not order directly from them.

Depending on how this works out, I may have to sell this kit myself to try to get my money back.

Any interest? The Banks part number is 50171. I would like to get $600 plus shipping, just to get my money back. I do NOT want to make money on this, just want to get mine back. I think this kit is a good deal, I just wish it would fit my Burb!!!

You can believe that I'll be letting everyone know how this turns out (either positive or negative), and publishing the name of the vendor, so that no one else has to go through this kind of stuff. They were very helpful when selling, but almost immediately responded "we can't take that back" when I told them I received a kit that wouldn't work.

Thanks!
Richard

ya if they will not take it back challenge CC and then call banks direct and tell them about bad customer service

This is one of those reasons for challenging a credit card charge. Do it, they will have to justify everything and make sure you tell the CC company that they knowingly sold you a part that will not fit your vehicle. Also print the online page with the pic, etc. Make sure you have proof so they cannot come back at you in any way.

If we can help at all just let me know

Well, I was ready to challenge via the bank issuing my credit card (I called the bank and they told me fine to challenge), but the vendor called me and is going to work it all out. The guy who finally called me back is the manager and is being very helpful (more so than the salesman, who just kept saying "we're not taking that back" before I even asked him to).

Like Zubz said, I had everything well documented, and that's what made the difference. When I explained it to the manager and showed it to him on their website (which I also have a screenshot of and printout, in case they decided to change it), he finally understood what the problem was.

Supposedly now there *IS* a kit available from Banks to fit my Burb, and that is what they should have ordered for me to start with. They are supposed to confirm today that they are going to exchange for the correct parts, so I'll let you know.

The *good* thing about this vendor is that they are able to special order these kits from Banks. When I called Banks directly when first trying to buy this kit, Banks told me it was discontinued.

I'll post the vendor info as soon as this is resolved. :) It's a small vendor, not like 4 Wheel Parts or something.
