Internet Service

I called Spectrum last night and basically told them how I felt and they were able to give me 100 mbps service for the same price I was paying for 50 Mbps and I don't have to pay for my modem any more and I supplied my own router. So I am happy with that, but I swear if my bill goes up again (they promised me that it wouldn't...) I am gone.

It will go up. I did the same thing a little over a year ago. Brought in all my equipment when I got rid of cable TV, gave them their damn overprice cable modem and told them to cancel my phone. When they told me how much I'd have to pay for internet I raised holy hell because I was a long time customer and they only give deals to new customers. He said he could give me 100 Mbps at the 50 Mbps price. You want to know what happened in February of this year? My bill went from the lower 50 Mbps price to the 100 Mbps price. Enjoy it for a year (maybe 2 if you're lucky) but be ready for when it goes up, because it will.

Talk to ya next month.

Spectrum will Tell you anything to get you signed up. Then wait a month or two & check your bill!
Per Dish & Direct, a New customer is someone that Hasn't had their service in 24 months. [last I heard]
I looked at the fine print on AT&T add today, checking on net & direct. LOW rate the first 12 mo., then on 13 th. month, it's $100. Come 13 months, it May be even More.

Spectrum raised our rate last October and said "no deals" so I signed with ATT and their Gigapower (fiber)300 for $60/mo. , it's the same price as the TWC 200 was, and it's considerably faster (symmetric 300mb/s), very satisfied.

...course id be a LOT more satisfied if it was $30/mo. ;)

$30 a month won’t pay me or cover my benefits though. IMO $60 a month for 300 meg is a steal compared to $60 a month for 60 meg charter that runs at 10-15 meg.

This has got me curious. I am now looking into AT&T Fiber. My Spectrum is fine... but it definitely isn't providing me the speed like it advertises and when I call and complain they just say they will look into it. It does netflix and internet great but try running netflix in 2 rooms and searching and it becomes an issue.

Have you tested your connection speed directly from the cable modem or out of a wired router port instead of over wireless?

Nothing in my house is wired. So no. Wirelessly I'm showing about 30... Pay for 50. Maybe I'm the asshole. Lol

Are you sure the problem isn't with your wifi setup?

Edit: 30mpbs is about the max that you'll see out of a 2.4 GHz network. We plugged in every device we could and switched some of the wireless streaming sticks to a separate 5 GHz network because of similar wifi congestion issues.

This raises a larger point - many of y'all may be paying too much for high-bandwidth plans that the hardware in your house can't actually utilize.

Id gladly pay $60 for 300.
I pay $50 for 6...through AT&T.
And upload we can get somewhere around .38.

The website says up to 18 is available in my area and they've sent 3 separate techs out and they tell me "sorry there isnt an available pair. whatcha got is whatcha got"

Skype or facetime is impossible because of our upload speed and latency.

I paid $325/month for 2 years to rent an office in town as Im required to have high speed internet for my job. We recently bought a new office close enough for me to just go there when I need to video conference.

Not available at my address
I'm curious. I have the AT&T stuff in my yard, and they tore up my grass a year and a half ago, but the website says not available at my address for uverse

Well hopefully my bill will stay where is currently is for a while. If I can get another year out of the same price. I will make a note to check back this time next year and I will be watching my bill like a hawk every month. I can already tell my internet being faster since the update.

Not entirely accurate.... the 2.4 Ghz is not the limiting factor, it's whether you're connecting with 802.11 b, g, or n ...using n should get you into the 150 Mbit/sec area.
However, Shawn's right that the 5 Ghz wifi has much more bandwidth, and if you expect to get the most out of your bad-ass internet connection, you'll need a premium router.

To give y'all an idea what I mean, the Apple Airport Extreme I have can run both 2.4 and 5 Ghz bands simultaneously. if I connect to the 2.4Ghz wifi using 802.11n, and run the speedtest. (speedtest.com) I get ~150 Mbit/sec both up and down. If I simply switch to the 5Ghz network, I can reach 300 mbit/sec both ways.

That's only line-of-sight with two channels bonded. Getting two channels requires no interference, which doesn't happen very often. If the router is in another room 20-30ft away, you're looking at 30-40Mbps max.

^^^^^^^^
Truth..... you definitely need full strength and no interference to get full speed.
... that's why some folks have 2 or more routers or WIFI access points in the house ;)
I'm going to stop here before I get banned :)

I'm just trying to figure out wtf you're doing to need 300 Mbs at home.
Multiple 4k p0rn streams?

I have had pretty good luck getting an address turned green for services when the system shows you are in a red area. If you know it’s AT&T terminal and service in your yard and want me to check into it pm me.

Good point. I know nothing about that shit. Time to look into it I guess.
My smart tv's operate on my 5ghz network. cell operates on 5g. Laptop is the only thing on the 2g because its older

Sorry about that. What town is it?
JC is in Greensboro. JC, if you have a land line, you can have internet. I Switched my landline to internet back when I bought the smart phone. AT&T Now calls it U-verse, but it's really just cable. Conduit was buried 3 years back all over Mount Holly, but it hasn't come available. Don't even know Who's conduit it is!

I pay $19.99/month for Spectrum. Went up a year or so ago from $15/month. Honestly I can't believe it hasn't gone up more but I sure as heck ain't complaining.

It is slow sometimes, but most of the time we can watch Netflix and surf internet simultaneously just fine.
How? I have just internet and it's $45/month with spectrum.
