Along the lines of Patrick's thinking, I think the line speed when lightly loaded is most important, but even that is much more important for the manual trans guys... nothing sucks more than over-running your cable and then having it snap back taut... It was a pleasure to be able to fully engage the clutch and have the winch keep up when I switched to the 8274.
When the winch is fully loaded down, slow is a good thing..

My Ramsey REP9000 with an upgraded motor was a great winch, just slow to wind in with little to no load... but it would pull really well when loaded... Adding a dedicated ground wire helps alot...
