Was taking a dump and cruising FB when an ad popped up for a SRT Grand with engine noise. Seller was an old wheeling buddy, so I appropriately low balled him and it rattled it's way onto my gooseneck.
Stopped off at Sheetz for some coffee and started looking for parts.
Specs: 2014 SRT WK with 6.4 Hemi. 149k miles, very, very good condition inside and out. Tires new this year, newer radiator and alternator. All in all pretty solid.
Got it in my shop yesterday and started to see what was going on. Pulled the driver's valve cover, reinstalled the coils and started it. All the valves are operating and definitely a death knock. Borescope shows piston fragments on top of #3. Also, 35 psi oil pressure cold. She done.
Plan is to wrap up a gear job currently on the rack and install a non-MDS long block with some cam and valve train upgrades.
Probably gonna sell it in the spring. May make it a fun drag strip project. May keep it. Who knows.
Pics, because build thread.

I've heard the 6.4s had problems cracking the pistons because that top ring is so high up. I had only read about it in boosted applications though.

I say throw some goodies in it and go rip!

Did somebody say supercharger? Turbos?

Forced induction would be great. But the 6.4 has a terrible OEM ring land, They don't like boost. I intend to fix, enjoy and sell this one. So there's no budget for a forged bottom end long block ($10k) and boost.
A solid N/A setup will be great

I will say...my buddy's wife has a '22 Durango RT with the 5.7 and that joker will scoot! It's also pretty comfortable. I'd imagine that's basically the same thing.

What's that place?
Toms 4x4. I go see Tyler any time I visit Chattanooga. He’s got some cool shit for builds laying around. He use to come wheel the Crawl with us. He’s got some really cool stuff.

You got the dollars. That was all for a project he was about to start. Tyler is really good at what he does. V8 swaps in Jeeps. He’s got a supped up Trackhawk? Grand and a JL on 40’s IIRC that he built. They are usually out front. Jews not an LS swap everything either.

beefier? doesn't like boost and pistons grenade due to bad design?
Maybe?
I don't know, I have no clue about these things because I don't know the platform at all.
I'm just an idiot who kinda knows how to put an engine together following OEM specs and I did a favor to a friend who was in a pickle at the time.

I can tell you the block, mains, cam tunnel, heads, fasteners etc are all way bigger than an LS.

Sounds like you should just get a hellephant crate engine instead now.

I wanna swap one into my ram rebel so bad. Id even be okay spending the 30g on the crate. Aint gunna find one realistically. I have dreams if its designed to work native with the hellcat, there must be a way to make it work native with the ram rebel

Sadly, probably gunna have to settle for a measly whipple sc and cam

That sounds cool.
