Job offer help

I actually have decided to turn it away. I cannot deny the facts about me and who I am that many of you pointed out even though I reckon I was ignoring for whatever personal reasons they were. I'm not gonna lie and say I don't feel little bummed about it cause I do but my own mind has been going crazy over this and reading 2pages of people's responses/opinions has reminded me of what is more important and valuable.
So thank you to all for your input and direction and Thank you for your time!

I did however come up with a "solution" to my problem at current job of being too slow and tired of dragging out work. So I made a bold move and had a chat with my boss today. He was having me put water pump and thermostat and hoses on his diesel truck today so i had something to do and he says to me "sorry man, thank you for your patience we're trying to keep you busy around here. We really don't want to loose you so we will do our best to keep you as busy as possible" his word for word.
So now was my chance, I replied to him with " well, I have a solution. Since you and me both know I drag out a lot of jobs just to make it through the day and week so I can manage a 40hr paycheck, I propose to put me on salary of my income now and allow me to come in and work full throttle the way I want to and when my work here is finished I can go home and do my side work and other projects. You pay me 40hrs no matter what so I'm not asking for more money right now I'm just asking to come in, bust my butt the way I like and go do my other business while still everyday taking care of the shop here first. And you're really not paying me for half the hours because well, even if from now on I'm out of here by 11-12 everyday (which will be the case most days) I'm coming in and working at 2-3x the speed I am now to get everything done that you need done."

He responded with "tomorrow we will sit down and figure this out, but I'm sure we can agree to something. I don't want to lose you so I will work with you the best I can"

So that's where I'm at....and that's where I'll be making my roots I guess. Come in 5:30 work full throttle, go home close to noon everyday and have half a day of light to do my stuff!!! fixing to really have it made

I do and have done exactly that. I know what my employees have to get done, and have no issues paying based on quota. However, from your stand point, there is one extremely dangerous byproduct. The other employees want to do the same thing...awesome for the bossman, productivity is through the roof. But if he’s any kind of bossman at all, he’ll recognize that half the shop is gone/done by lunch/early afternoon. Your main objective is to be busy and not sit around. Guess what, now 2 are doing the job that 3 people were. That 3rd Head gets cut loose because it’s an unnecessary salary. That 3rd guys work gets divvied up between head 1 and head 2...now you’re back to working a full 40 and getting paid the same...but at least you’re busy. It’s not a matter of IF the goal line will move, but when. And if you go salary...guess who’s gonna get leaned on to do more work.

Best of luck John but you need to cover yourself if the boss wants you to start working 80 hours a week on salary. Talk about being paid for OT in the sit down tomorrow.
oh ABSOLUTELY. I'm the only guy btw for those who didn't know. It's just me by myself all day. He's out building the buildings and lady works he office and I run the shop. I am only signing up for salary (already mentioned hint of it to him today) that it's only for what is going on now. Once he picks up another full crew to go out and build buildings then my salary goes up instantly and from there on same story.
These buildings pieces are so quick to build that he'd have to have 2 more full size crews out building these to keep me at 40hr busy so until then, I'm good. I hope that day comes though so I can make some real money at the job but for now, I've got jeeps to work on, garage to build, this weekend bringing home my new buggy project and other normal stuff so I don't mind staying at this pace either to allow me to do what I love doing ....working for myself

Agreeing to be on salary can be a slippery slope. As mentioned, what happens when things pick up (I know you mentioned a raise in salary) , but what if you need to work an extra 20 hours a week when this happens?

That will be settled as it comes. Remember I keep quiet and to myself and love to work my tail off but am also bold to speak up and get what little extra I deserve otherwise I hit the rd once I've tried to be reasonable with everything. With this guy it's different cause he really can't afford to lose me and has told me that several times over past 5 months. He can barely keep descent help to go out and build the work load and according to him and the office lady, I'm the 1st person in 22yrs he's trusted with shop keys and left alone even when they took week long vacation. We have good relationship, just slow pace for my side of work.
So basically as long as I'm reasonable on my terms, he will give me what I want/need to keep me. I know he's well aware that I can go anywhere anytime to get a job making better money and he knows that the flexibility of schedule is top reason why I've dedicated to the job. This salary offer just makes me little more free and to make better money on my own

Please dont take this the wrong way, but werent you looking to leave this job not that long ago? IIRC you were worried about the long term stability of it?

Yeah but many advised to stick it out and try and invest so I've done that the best I can in fairness. I pretty much quit looking but a friend mentioned he seen this job and thought it was a good fit for me.
With this job there's always a concern for "stability" if he couldn't go build the buildings yeah it would change things but I know jobs are plentiful so It doesn't bother me. We get along great, doesn't mean I agree or like his business ethics but if I can have my schedule I'll be happy with it.
