jumping OFF Linville falls

Yeah, I have a friend that was 'jacked by some locals at Ricks cafe, for about a hundred bucks, while on his honeymoon. He went to the bathroom in his wet shorts after jumping, was offered drugs and like a dummy,accepted a free sample...then was told to pay for it all or else...''we take care of you mon'' He said the guy shoved him up against the wall while more thugs surrounded. He in his wet shorts said'' I have no cash on me, my wallet is with my wife''. Then they let him go to her and get 100 bucks. He actually paid for it...scared for his life. His wife quickly got the drugs and flushed them. He was just happy to be alive at this point. I think he is a dumbass for even saying yes to a ''free bump'' in a bathroom, in a foriegn place. Its a funny but stupid story. Had to share.

He said that it was some locals that were jumping from the trees and he thought they were cool.....guess not huh?

Welcome to a 3rd World Country mon.... they recommend you do not leave the resort... and why would he take a hit off something in a bathroom from someone you dont know in a third world country? I'd say $100 is a good out... they could have kidnapped him and his wife and never to be seen again...

Also, in Jamaica... you get propositioned every time you turn around...
 
I know..thats my point exactly..I called him a lucky dumbass several times. His wife was just setting there sunbathing when he comes up as demands 100 bucks, she asked why, in a panic he says just give it to me NOW...she sensed something was'nt right and forked over the money, just from the look on his face and tone of his voice..
Supposedly you are safe if you dont stray from the tourist grid, but these were locals who somehow were able to enter Ricks Cafe, spot a target and make off with the loot.
He said there were thugs waiting outside by the gate for when they got on the bus too.
He said all the thugs were using hand signals and certain facial expressions to communicate.All the while, noone from he tour or cafe was aware of anything going on. He was to scared to mention it to anyone.
Seems scary to me...and times 100 on my friend being a dumbass in the first place. He likes to risk his life sniffing that crap anyways, so this seemed cool to him in a land where the coke is supposed to be the finest. I dont do, or condone that junk and have had many worries over this good friend. He is a carefree soul that is a joy to be around, never has an unfriendly word for anyone...it's just that monkey on his back...so sad really.
For the record, he said it was a fat bag w/ good stuff, so he didnt actually get ripped off, it was just the high pressure sale that sacared him. Oh yeah, did I mention the wifey demanded to know later and he fessed up...then the toilet was flushed...lol good for her..for both handing him the money( to save his /her life..and good for her for the immediate flushing of said contraband!
 
just be glad he wasnt caught with the powder in Jamaica....a spring break memory and a friend sentenced to 10 years...
 
They had guys walking around there asking for tips for the guys in the trees. They wouldn't jump until they were signaled by their guys in the crowd that they had enough tips. I tipped a guy the first time he asked. He came up and asked me 3 more times for a tip. I found it humorous and annoying by this point. Laughing, I asked him "why don't you get your happy ass up there and jump?" He replied, "nah mon, I'm the pharmacist, you need anything you let me know".

10 mins later a looks to be local guy dressed in all white with a big bling chain comes up and asks for a light. Niether of us smoke so I told him I didn't have one but the couple to our left probably would since they were smoking cigs.....a minute later this HUGE cloud of Jaimacas' finest came floating by. I turned around and the guy just smiled holding a big blunt. Mind you there were probably around 100 people out there and this was still daylight. My wife gave me a suprised look and I shrugged and said "that must be Rick":popcorn:

My brother went to Jail in Ocho Rios.....thats another story. Been advised by several people not to go there. Ricks was the only time we left the resort on land.
 
We had a tree on the Trent River in New Bern. There were many places to jump from the tree. One platform was around 50 feet. From that platform you climber a a main branch on 2x4's nailed into place to reach the highest. That platform was called 7th Heaven and was 72 feet at normal water levels. I made that jump twice when I was 16. It was the onyl time I ever got to jump from that tree. I should have worn shoes. The bottom of my feet were tender the next day.
 
Jumping off Linville is stupid. Linville Search and Rescue pull alot of idiots from the falls. If anyone knows the frat that includes this in their hazing, please step forward and help save a life. If there was a ritual in a frat haz that included putting a pistol to their head and pulling the trigger, i hope we would step up and confront that. Stupid does hurt!!!!!! sometimes it even kills.

But how many didn't get a ticket because they died instead? I heard it happens at least once a week that somebody dies in Linville Gorge.
 
How low of tire pressure can I run with beadlock wheels that are not real beadlocks and have the tire still stay on the rim?

Elk river falls is not near the Linville gorge. Elk river averages a few newbie tourist die most years but very rarely from jumping purposely… Linville falls has had zero jumpers die in the history of the falls and maybe one every two to four years in the entire length of the gorge- dies hiking or rock climbing although one year had two deaths. A girl recently fell about 120ft from a look out over linville falls but she did not die jumping.

Anyone know about a quarry in wendell. My girlfriend at the time and I went once and jumped. It was a long ways up. Can't remember the name or how we got there. This was probably 2000/2001 time frame.

Went there a time or two in high school around that same time frame. Good times. Got busted by the cops once.
