Well I guess I did something bad because Karma just stuck it to me.

As some of you know I just finish painting my truck this weekend..

so here is what happened:

I had 2 - 10 foot pieces of tube attached to frotn of my XJ with winch connected to the top. John H and myself use this as a crane to lift things and move them around the yard.
you can see how I had truck parked with crane attached to jeep

well I left winch controller connected to winch ( DO NOT DO THIS) and with all the rain something shorted out and the winch turned on and pulled the winch cable in.

this then caused the bars to fall forward and bend in half, and my brand new painted truck was in front of the XJ so the bras hit the roof and dug in, gouged the roof, the passenger side glass and the passenger door. VERY BAD. and the winch kept going until the cable was all the way in.. which makes me believe my battery is now dead in jeep and winch is probably burnt up.. or winch rope is broke, or johns snatch block.. Sorry John.

I can repair it all in time and of course with money, but man I gut just dropped when I walked outside this AM to see the destruction. The good news is NO ONE was around when this happened so we are all safe..

Ken C (having a bad day, after such a great weekend)

Sure it wasn't vandalism? When I had my XJ i left the controler hooked up all the time on my M8000... My cousin's is always hooked up (3-4 years now) and never had a single issue?

Just seems odd to me?

Pretty sure it was not..

Plus I have a Large gate connected to a large ram on a remote. so you can not just walk into backyard. and my security camera also did not see anyone walk threw gate last night :)

and to be honest if a person stood there and did that , they have huge balls.. I would have been worried something would break and splinter, shatter, etc

That is a nice idea for a crain sucks for the malfunction but still a great idea. I had a mile marker winch w/ remote attached that turned to auto mode in traffic on hwy 150 luckly the rope broke and dumped the hook on to the road.

Years ago there was a rash of hoodlums pulling the winch cable back over the hood to the rear bumper/hitch, engaging it (with controller left attached or jumpers made from paperclips or foil), and walking away. A few "luxury sedans" near winch owners also got mangled as well... the Toy truck I saw was almost "folded" in half! Since then, I always disconnect the winch leads from the battery after wheeling, but likely wouldn't have done it in Kens situation.

The damage from a winch/cable is *almost* as bad as a mushroom boat anchor & rope wrapped around the top brush of a drive thru car wash! All the lady had to do was drive off the switch to stop the cycle, but NOOOO!

Sorry about the damage bro.

"Gentlemen, he can rebuild it. We have the technology. Ken will be that man. He can make it better than it was before. Better, stronger, faster."

Needs more triangulation!

Looks like you went through a lotta trouble to bend that tube.....why didnt you just use a bender:flipoff2:

my tube bender just would not bend it like I wanted.. so the winch was next best thing :)
