I had to run up to our church about 8pm tonight, just a couple of miles up US-1. As I sat at the stoplight waiting to turn onto 1 (McDonalds at Tramway, if you know the area), I turned on my scanner, and heard a dispatch go out for a wrong way car in the Northbound lanes of 1, seen at the Hwy 42 exit (couple of miles up, that's where I was headed). So...there were only 2 off us going North from the light. I was watching hard -- and it was still hard to pick the car out against the oncoming headlights, even though it is a divided highway. I'm glad I had a clue he was coming.
I slowed and put it on the edge of the grass when I saw him coming...white caddy...right turn signal on...only doing about 40-45 mph.
Anyway, I was listening on the scanner, several city cops were trying to located him. They were way north of where he was...so I punched in 911. Told them I passed the guy just North of the highway patrol station, and that at that minute, he had probably already reached the first Tramway stoplight. Didn't hear dispatch update the location, but figured maybe it went out on the data terminal/MDT. Nope...about 5 minutes later, they were still trying to locate him...well north of where I had seen him, maybe 4 miles north. Guess that message never went past the operator.
Anyway...that's the best story I got tonight.
