Does anybody have any info on children and wheelin?
I'm not talkiin about anything extreme just some mild things up at ure.
Any experince or advise?

Want to take my 1.5 year old and get her started on camping and wheelin.
Thanks

I take my 3 year old all over the park. just make sure you don't bounce alot my daughter uses one of those horse shoe type neck pillows to help protect her neck & she actually falls asleep sometimes on the long rides she loves it

we went to Rausch Creek this past weekend and everyone up there had their kids with them..

check this out - it is a 10month old

My now 5 and 9 years olds love it. Not too big on time when I put the front tires on a big rock (only for a picture pose, I would never climb something extreme with them). Other than those times the kids have a great time and also enjoy playing in the dirt while I do things like Kodak. I definately agree on the neck pillow for young kids and I am putting PRP kids seats and 5 point harness in the Buggy for the kids well surrounded, supported, and held in place.

I would wait until they are at least 3. Below 3 is too small and un-developed to be out on the trails all day sucking in the dust and getting bounced around, even if you are gonna do the easy stuff, accidents still happen. Thats just my opinion..................

I started taking my little girl when she was about 2. She LOVED IT! She too would fall asleep... then again, she'd also fall alseep to Hammering, Welding, Grinding and Air tools in the Garage on a CJ Bench seat in the corner.

Watch the amount of juice, snacks and bouncing around, it tends to become a projectile Vomit! Also, When they are potty trained, take along a plastic potty!

well that is what I was looking for. I would think the neck brace would be a good idea. its a car seat that has sholder straps and belt combo thing. I know things happen and usually to me but I'm going to be with a large group. If abreak down would occur I will have help. I will also have all inside gear stowed and secured as well as try to put everything on roof rack.Just have to rember not to put her on the rack.LOL

the one other thing to look out for is if the kid is getting to HOT.. in an open top rig in the summer in NC it can get very very warm..

I am not worried since I have a full bodied rig with good A/C

I had a break line pop on me on the trail once. That scared me enough to think twice about taking my kids although I would love to take them. It was one of those things that just happened. Sometimes things can happen no matter how prepared you are or how safe you drive. Loosing breaks on a hill is NOT COOL!

I totally agree! I'm in a open rig in the hot months it's damn near to hot for me we hit it in the morn or late evening with a 12 volt fan on us & floor insulation------drink water!

I agree with the 3 yr old cut off. That is when I started taking my boy and after the first time, he won't let me go without him. At that age, you can pull them out and let them stand in a safe spot by themselves if you have to. A group is a must when you've got a little one riding with you. When I rolled the Mog, having a group helped me manage the recovery and kept him safe.

I also agree with heat being something to watch. For seats, I used a high back seat that provided head protection/support with full straps.

A good cage, with properly installed child seats and I think it is as safe if not safer than a run to the grocery store at 5 pm on a Friday.
Brad (RedX) on the board has some video of my son sound asleep in the pass. seat of the Commando running through a rock garden.

We started taking our daughter when she was about 2 - her kindergarten spring break was spent in the back of a rental Jeep in Moab. She's 8 now and still likes wheelin with me, she calls it "going to the Jeep park"
