KOH Rausch Creek Race.. come on NC boys

Dang, hope Travis can get his rig rollin again for next weekend.

Good job Greg and Will, gotta admit, I thought all the hype about Will from the KOH with Shannon was just luck and slightly blown outta proportion due to the incident . . . but it looks like Will is the def the real deal

Hope to see all you guys next weekend, its gonna be sick, preparations are really kickin into high gear over this way, I'm anxious to see what NC's finest can do on our track :driver:

They said on Pirate that Rob will get a spot in the KOH.

yep that's Travis and Will....
Yup, and that is me on the far left side winching up.
As soon as Will rolled, I yelled out "Hurry up, here comes Shannon Campbell!!", then Travis pinned it trying the right side, rolling in to Will.
It was a fun day. Every time Travis and I passed each other we gave each other the bird.
In that crazy as rock bed, Will honked his horn, so I moved over, and as he pulled along side, he slammed in to a big rock stopping his rig. I looked over and started laughing and pointing. He started laughing, gassed it and took off.
Going up that first obstacle where the traffic jam was, Greg got in front of me so, I yelled out if he wanted a push. It looked like all he needed was a little bump to get going. He gave me the hand signal, so I tried to push him up. Scratched powder coat and dented panel was what he got instead.
Then, on the last lap, 100 yards from the finish, and knowing time was not on my side, I roll it. It was on a huge drop off on the manmade part of the course. I couldnt get it in 5th fast enough to drive out. It was straight up and down on the stinger and the bumper with the wheels off of the ground. I was thinking....Come awn, can a brother catch a break?? NOPE..right on the roof. The spectaters rollme over, so now I am facing backwards on the course. Throttle cable is broke so it wont start. The other competitiors start to run from the finish to push my beat up ass car across the finish, but I get it to fire but at wide open throttle. I decide I can just flip the ignition on and off to get across under my own power.
I cross and ask Dave if I made time. He said nope, but said they came to the east coast to get 10 drivers, I am the 11th across and Will was already in, so I take the 10th spot. Unbelievable.
Crazy ass race for sure...62 miles in 8 hours. I have never winched so much in my entire life as I did yesterday.
Carnage-
Rear ARB O-rings leak
Bent like hell rear wishbone
Lost the MC cap,so lost all brake fluid..at a pit, topped it off and zip tied a ziplock bag on.
Broke throttle cable
Nasty coal mud is covering the entire rig.
I will fix it up for this weekend though....
BTW-If rockcrawling was like "Rock Creek" I would never rockcrawl again. Driving through that 5 times was torture. I dreaded that part of the course more than any other thing.
Lastly, huge thanks to Fletcher, Billy, and Dannette from Performance for the pit support. To the Muddevils for spotting us some gas to finish, talking $#it to each other before, DURING, and after the race, and for being an all around awesome group of people. Rausch Creek (sorry, but the race was a good trail ride ruined!!) for putting this thing on. The VOLENTEERS on the course....Man, on that last lap, they knew I was the only one out there and hurting on time to finish, so they were waving me through and cheering...Plus the guys on the obstacles were always supportive of our efforts to keep moving. Jeff and Dave for coming out and offering us right coasters a chance to qualify for the big show!!
Great weekend, see you guys at URE!!!

Congrats Rob and tell us what happened to your spotter?

That was nuts...Congrats again Will. I pitted twice, never stopped, had nothing break and found out the buggy can hit the rev limiter in high range and in drive. My goal for this race was just to finish, I could tell from pre-runnning there weren't going to be many people to do so. I really wasn't expecting a top ten finish, a great time withh great people. Congrats Rob for making it through and thank your spotter for the winch help.

One hell of a time. Raced hard and had a blast even with the breakage. We lost a tire, and with no spare had to run it for over 7 miles back to camp. We did many of the obsticles with a flat including the man made rock course. Ended up hitting 60 MPH with no front drivers side tire. The end was rather abrupt with a stump that ripped the knuckle and high steer arm off the buggy. That ended our day. We were able to walk the 3 miles out and get to see Will and Greg finish though. I will be back next year for more punishment for sure.

Congrats Rob and tell us what happened to your spotter?

I had just finished a lot of work on the car and had not even driven it yet. We used the first lab as a "pre-run/shake down" run. I rolled on that same man made part on the first lap, and it came down HARD on the passenger rear tire. I am 250#'s and Billy is 300, so I decided to remove ALL excess weight for the rest of the race, co-driver included. I gave him a ride to that first obstacle where he got out to help me winch, but I made it up and waved goodbye. By the end it was really bent, but never broke. From there, he stayed at the pits or at the rock climb in case I needed assistance.

Greg, I will let him know.....Tell Travis Thanks fro helping me on that second rock climb after he broke. It was nice to stay in the buggy!!!

Was a good trip, had alot of fun. Nice to meet you Rob, congrats on finishing. Will did a helluva job this weekend and deserved the win.

Sam and I had tough luck, but that seems to be how its been going lately. We ran for a long time on the flat, and made good time through checkpoint 3. Once the studs sheared off we were done though. Greg kept consistant throughout the entire race, and didn't have any trouble. Travis had some trouble, broke a 14 bolt shaft (yes it can happen) and ended up losing a motor.

We ran out of fuel in the tow rig on the way home, and had two flats on the trailer also. Met with Travis this afternoon and got him a motor so he should be good to go for the race this weekend. I'll be at the beach, so I won't be able to make it, but I'm sure it will be a good time.
