So I am going to NY for the first time and flying into La Guardia and need to get to W 77th st where my hotel is... I looked it up on Hopstop.com and it telling me I have to walk for 32 minutes then board the subway.....I am trying to find the quickest way to get to 77th from La Guardia without taking a bus or cab.... Anyone know off the top of the head that has been before or knows the subway system?

I've been there before. I just rode in a cab. Not too terribly expensive. Traffic at the airport (well, for NY in general) is pretty bad, so I'm not sure you'd wanna walk.

oh man, I don't have a clue. It's been over a year since I have been. Sorry bro.

will probably end up taking a cab ride form the airport to hotel...don't want to, but I am not walking 30 min with luggage or carrything that ish around for over an hour trying to get to the hotel....

There are several ways and walking 30 mins isn't one of them...

Easiest is set it up with Super Shuttle and it's done...

In the cab you have to pay the meter and all tolls... SuperShuttle is once and done all you need to do is tip the van driver...

Since you're staying up on 77th.. hit up the Shake Shack on the corner of 77th and Columbus... I threw it into SuperShuttle and came up with $30 each way ...

Good luck. When I went the Shake Shack line was over half a block long!!! However the one we saw was in Madison Square Park, we stayed in the Gramercy Park District, which is way down near East 20th.

We also rode in to Penn Station from Syracuse so I cant really help you with that either

I was reading that from LaGuardia to upper west side is between $24-30 plus tolls and tip....not too bad. Plus this would be a one time thing..Wouldn't need to take a cab the rest of the trip except for maybe when we leave for the airport... I really have no idea what the super shuttle or shake shack is.

Looked up Supershuttle. Thanks man! Looks like that is the best way to get to the hotel and seems to be a bit cheaper than taking a taxi.

Super Shuttle is an airport-point-to-point van service, like a cab but they carry several people at once and drop you off by where your stop is on the route. SOmetimes van companies will give you a discount if you pay up front for a round trip. There are lots of P2P van companies but Super Shuttle is one of the biggest, national firm.

I can't imagine the cab ride is less than SS. They are usually very competitively priced. Remember that in a cab you pay for sitting in traffic jams. :-(

SuperShuttle is at pretty much every major airport around the US. You sign up online w/ either a 1-way or round-trip fare. You pay online.. They come into baggage claim and pick you up.. take you to your destination... then pick you up at your hotel for your return trip to the airport...

Probably the same price as a cab.

Another way is to walk outside and take the bus to the subway.. cost you arond $5 each.

Shake Shack is a restaurant.. http://www.shakeshack.com/

Here's some of my recommendations...
1. Hit up the Empire state during the day (it has a cage around it).... Hit up the Top of the Rock at night (it's glass outside)

2. 5 napkin burger is the best burger i've had.. corner of 9th and W45th

3. Capizzi Pizza .. awesome intimate authentic itialian pizza.. cash only on the corner of 9th ave and 40th

4. See Spiderman

5. map out the subway before you go...

6. on and on... I need to go back soon..

Thanks man! I will def hit those places up. We are gonna try to pack in a bunch of site seeing in the 5 days that we are there.

Question, do you have to sign up for Reservations online? I know that I am supose to be getting into Laguardia at about 11 am on Sunday morning that day, how much time should I allow to be there to catch the shuttle? Is it better to go ahead and pre pay? is there any discount? or just reserve one at the airport when I arrive that morning?

You need to sign up online.. You give them your flight info (arrival/departure).. they'll take care of the rest it's really simple.. Pay for both online when you set it up...

Basically when you land you walk over the the rental car phone bank area and use the Supershuttle phone... let them know who you are and they'll send the van over to get you.

I asked my daughter, she lives in Brooklyn, works in Manhattan, travels out of LaGuardia often. She said you pretty much have to take a cab or bus.

"take a cab - it'll be like 30 bucks. or if you really want to save
money, you can take the bus to the subway - take the M60 to the N/Q or
the Q33 F, E or R - you'll have to have a metro card or exact change
for the bus. i think it's $2.25"

sounds like JC nailed the info for you.

i was gonna suggest calling your hotel and asking the desk for suggestions.

Holy crap...$2.25 to ride the bus? I remember when it used to cost $.50 or so when I was a kid...
