Leaving Neverland

I have to agree on the whole celeb worship closeness weird crap.......I have watched folks get torn up like dead family and friends reaction.

Really people? Upset over some entertainer mouth piece hundreds of miles away. You probably bought over priced tickets to see from 15 feet away crammed next to another multi dozen idiots like yourself once or every time they came to town......yet blood kin dies suddenly and you send a condolences card and plastic flowers in a chia pet pottery.

I have watched folks get torn up like dead family and friends reaction.

I've seen people lose their shit over a celebs death (see princess Diana and most women between 30 and 60)

The newest worthless debate I'm seeing that parallels MJ is the whole Freddie Mercury movie NOT being true to the real story, and fanboys/girls getting 3 degrees of butthurt over some award won for the movie.

I had several queen 45's when I was kid. No idea why only 45's and no LP's but at any rate, just 45's. I played "Another on bites the dust" so many times that it literally wore out the record. I liked it. Had no idea the singers name was Freddie Mercury until I was in HS and some debate came up about him being gay, or having aids....didn't listen much. Didn't care really.

Those same folks that were all bent outta shape about his death are the same ones I see now on facepage entering debate after debate about the legitimatizes of the film. Again, don't care, wouldn't waste my money or time watching anything about them. They made music. I liked a lot of it, but really don't care anything about how they got there or him personally. He struggled? Well, cool...he overcame? Awesome. He never sent me a birthday card, so I didn't attend his funeral.

I'm not saying that I get bent out of shape because of the death of a celebrity, but when you are growing up and you listen to someone, or watch someone, or look up to someone, when that person can no longer create content for you to enjoy because they have passed, I believe it can affect you in a certain way. I grew up listening to whatever my parents were listening to, which was normally The Eagles, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, anything 80's, etc. MJ was sort of the music that I gravitated towards on my own. I remember going to see The Eagles in 2013 and it being the best concert I had ever been to and then remember saying that I wanted to see them again before one of them passes away and then Glenn Frey died, Yeah Glenn didn't even know I existed, and I didn't shed a tear, but you still reflect on it I think.
Music is very important to a lot of people. It gets them through tough times and good times. It gives you nostalgia, it can make you cry, it can make you happy, mad, etc and I think a lot of people associate those emotions with what they are hearing and naturally to the persons performing them.

I didn't start this thread to talk about how people feel about the death of a celebrity, but I have always thought the story of MJ was fascinating and wondered if anyone else thought the same.

I won't disagree. When Coy and Vance tried to replace Bo and Luke, I was devastated. But thankfully Michael Knight emerged the same year, and I moved on :smokin:

I guess I am weird how I relate to music, or really entertainment in general.
Like there is a lot of music I like that I at times despise the political stance of the person singing it, but unless they infiltrate their music with their beliefs it doesnt change my opinion of the music.

I am a huge Jason Isbell fan. Ive went and seen him in concert a half dozen times at least. Lately (last 5 years tbh) he's slid off the rails to the left doing never missing a chance to slam trump in interviews and including a song about his white guilt on his last album. I hate his political slant, but I enjoy his music. His political stance doesn't change how I feel about his music.

I grew up with a dude in high school and went to college with a guy who is now (and has been for 2 decades) a Nashville musician. When he went to Nashville for the first time I went with him because his truck was in the shop and he needed a ride. I don't have a musical note in my body. That weekend we hung out with some guys who invited him and went to some bars...at one of the bars The Dixie Chicks were playing. They didnt have a record deal but they had a buzz on broadway. I was amazed at this hot chick shredding a banjo. 5 years later they did their infamous Im embarrassed of the US line. Ok fuck them and the horse they rode in on. But everytime I hear their music I remember that weekend week in Nashville and lots of good memories. I like their music even if I hate them.

I dont know how better to express that. But I really dont care how you are as a person. If I pay you to entertain me, entertain me and Ill pay. No matter how big a POS you are off the stage.

Entertainment, pleasure center of Brian kinda reaction. Makes you remember time and place orientation or when real good associations with life events or situations.

A real good song is just as poignant as great poetry in the right tone and context. Its a down right art form at many levels that I admire and greatly respect. Music can be a release or interject highs and lows, but it's not so organic that the person is the loss, rather then the expression of the art for me. Like MJ he was a pop guy that I also really, really enjoyed.....heck I studied dance for a while. He was phenomenal. Would I be interested in his dirt or lack their of....nope. The intrigue stops at the performance. Do I want justice for any criminal act sure.....but like MJ sang that's "black and white" for every and anybody.

watched the 1st part of Leaving Neverland last night and I gotta admit... Very disturbing.
It really paints you a good picture of what its like to be put under a spell by someone you admire and how that person giving you attention means everything to you and you will do whatever it takes to keep that attention going. IF everything said is true, its very sad that these now men, had to go through something like at SUCH a young age.
To me though, these two men didn't really seem too disturbed as they were talking about this, unless they are just numb to it by now.

Going to try and watch the last part of it tonight.

Watched the 2nd part of this and I am just not sold.
Towards the end, I felt like it could be credible, but a part of me wonders why they waited so long to say anything..

Were they afraid of the ramifications? Death threats? MJ going to jail? Or had they lied to themselves for so long that it sort of became their truth?

A lot of people are using Corey Feldman and Macaulay Culkin as reasons he never did anything, but honestly these two were already famous at the time and didn't need MJ to help their careers and MJ probably felt like they would be more of a liability.

I know it really doesn't matter in the end because the man is no longer living, but ever since I was young, Its always been a part of the news whether he did or didn't do it, but I guess we will never really know unless some hard evidence comes out.

No dog in the fight, but Corey Feldman came out about abuse he actually suffered, so I would think if it happened with MJ he would have said so.

Uh... Folks around here have known Pete for 20 years.

Known or ‘known’, I’m sure folks have met him, probably even held conversations with him...but know him and his family well enough to be invited to the funeral or to have known what was going on with his life beyond what was online??? If the answer to those is ‘no’, I don’t understand the interest in the personal life or death of someone that had otherwise no impact on your day to day life.

Young, cute MJ became the #1 of the 5 when he was just a kid. I think his father, coaches and "friends", used him like organ grinders and tried to keep him young as long as possible cause the $$$$$$$$$ was rollin in, and he never mentally matured into an adult. It's a sad story how ever what the truth is.

Very true. I always said that he turned out the way he did because no one has experienced that level of fame at such a young age and continue that throughout the majority of your life. I mean, the dude wrote a song about his best friend Ben, an F'n rat. Great song, but damn that's sad.

hey warrior i too was a dancer in my youth. ballet tap and jazz. from 6 years old till about 20 years old.
yeah it had its perks, some of the lifts in ballet had your hands placed where a chubby was difficult thing not to get.
and the changing rooms were shared with the girls form 12 years on. some of the best thrills i had early on were
with girls from dance--heck that's where my wife and i really started hanging out together. myself and another guy 3 years my senior were the only males that stood the test of time. learned alot about discipline and coordination
as well as learning how to deal with women.

the other guy and i both ended up straight and raced in SCCA for several years after and are still close friends.

Yep.....that girl was named Liberty.

Me too! :smokin:

...wait, does paying a dollar at a time count as "studying dance"?
Naw that more of them self serve booths.....you gotta get on the stage and be in the behind scenes to thoroughly study the art.

@WARRIORWELDING That's it!
Smells like a challenge to me. I'm gonna bring a big pc of cardboard to your shop ( or we can go public)and we're gonna have ourselves a good old 80s dance battle!
Bring yer own style and I'll bring mine.
I'll dust off the old boom box and grab the cassettes.

I'm gonna pop and lock all up in yo face! @DAWGTOY can get some too.
