28 is about as short as I would probably go. I pulled the XJ inches from the neck and the YJ was about a foot off the back of the xj when they were all strapped down. Still had to strap the ramps to the back tires of the YJ. Gave me movement front and back if needed to adjust the load. But that heavy ass tandem dual DGAF.
