LIFT ON A XJ

I HAVE A 95 JEEP XJ AND WANT TO PUT A 6-8 INCH LIFT AND 33 OR 35 INCH TIRES ...YOU GUYS THAT HAVE THIS HOW IS IT RIDDING AND DO YOU HAVE MANY PROBLEMS?

Search over on NAXJA.org topics like this get posted daily. a 6-8" lift on a XJ could clear 37-40" tires.

You're going to have to do work on steering, driveline, etc.... But it's doable
 
ya I was just messing with you a little bit..

I have a 98 XJ with 38 TSL's on it..

So yes you can lift them..
if you want to drive it alot on the street I recommend
4.5" lift some 32's lockers and a winch you will have a blast with that setup and it still will ride great.
 
i'd recommend going with a 6in lift if you plan on running 33-35's. an 8 inch with the narrow axles makes you more prone to roll. the 8in and 33's i was running got kinda scary at times, even at uwharrie where it's not too nasty.
 
I am running Rustys 4.5" lift springs with 1.75 coil spacers and lift shackles in rear. Currently using rustys short arms but wished i had gone with long arm set up to make it ride better on the road. I am clearing 33" bfg mud terr. with only a little trimming on the rear and about 3-4" of fender trimming up front. will be running 35's next and will probably just add some bump stops or just cut more sheet metal.

you will need SYE kit, cv drive shaft, extended brake lines, drop pitman arm. And plan on some headaches on getting the steering to act right. I was told the 6" mark was where the trouble started with steering geometry but i was hard headed and did it anyways.
 
For running 33's-35's I recommend something like the RE 4.5" Kit, then cut and bumpstop accordingly to fit. The ride is great. Anything over 4.5" you should budget for either drop brackets or long arms.

Also budget for a SYE at that height...

Im running about 6" of lift w/ 37's On my XJ.. Here's a pic of where it's sitting right now.. Still have to weld in the EOR cage, finish Hydro assist install, and some other odds and ends...

The tires are 37x12.5x17 Comp. Compound Trepadors on Soft 8's

A lot depends on your budget. If you don't have much you will end up doing it half ass and it will ride like crap. I had 6" lift a while ago and it was al right but my current set up is way better.
 
THANKS guys this helps ..... i have a full size truck but want to get something alittle better on gas and for smaller trails..a jeep ..

I had a 4.5 rubicon express lift with 33's. Had plenty of fun with it. But like always you're never satisfied. so now i got 38's, with a bigger lift.
 
i run 2" lift with 33's and fender trimming, anythings possible, if you're going to go that big you better get some big tires

I run the Rusty's 4.5" kit and 31's. With a little more trimming I could get 33's easy. Rusty's makes a really quality kit, for a real good price.
 
Not only does trimming help stuff larger tires, it keeps the COG lower. Plus it pounds into your head : Sheet metal is expendable:huggy:

I'm at about 5" trimmed in front and trimmed/folded pinchwelds in the back and 33s fit with no problem.

I'm on a '97 and don't have bad driveline vibes with a 1" t-case drop. Bandaid, yes, but its far from the lowest thing under there and with lift + tires my crossmember sits significantly higher than stock. I'd suggest the SYE for any higher though.


Bruiser said it best, build with armor, lockers, and enough lift to clear 33s or so (4-5") and you'll strike the best balance. I think if I were to go higher than the 5 or so inches I have in the front I'd definitely want long arms.

But really I'd just trim up further and comp cut the rear quarters to stuff bigger tires. I swear this decision has not already been made.
 
Brace the shit out of it and never ever run it without the doors unless its very well braced, glass will start popping out, then its too late
