Lots of interesting news today

This is what our government should spend time on.
With what the democrats in Washington have been putting on social media in the last month, I'm surprised OUR democrats haven't put out numerous ticktacks twerking wearing only their underoos and spanks in a conga line in the the state capitol to this song already

They are probably behind the scenes writing more dumb proposals

But don't worry they can also jointly come up with dumb shit

Let me save them 495k, the answer is don't do it, now send me my 5k check

Do they back off these before implemented?

Seems wild. Even counts for imported parts for assembly.

Does it drive up new and used car prices?

The tariffs on autos would start being collected on April 3, Trump said. If the taxes are fully passed onto consumers, the average auto price on an imported vehicle could jump by $12,500

I'm really interested to see how this plays out.

It's unfortunate that people (and I'm using that term very loosely here) who choose to take actions that could be life altering for another, seem to never have consequences that are life altering for themselves. I remember when the whole "knockout challenge" bullshit was going around, and I wanted to hear of some justice from a witness but never did. 95% of the people in this country are tired of this shit, but only 87% will say it, and only a fraction of a percent would actually do something about it if they saw it happen.

And two, it won't be left in place long enough to see the positive long term effects.
It's this part that has me confused. Why bother when the next guy/gal will dismantle it?

Historically, during the 19th century it worked and covered 95% of the Gov't revenues and kept us away from income taxes as well as other taxes, and I think that the industrial revolution in America helped support this by being the leader in innovative manufacturing. Then when Hoover tried to reinstate tariffs to ease the depression, there were arguably some ill effects. At this point, we don't have the manufacturing to back it up and it's going to take time to build that up. Thus leading to the concerns about it not being left in place long enough.

I don't necessarily disagree with the concept, I just don't see how it'll work in this day and age.

With that attitude, we will never get anywhere! But honestly, that's why we need to dismantle the whole thing and start over. And I'm hopeful it will kinda sorta happen with DOGE, but it will take 2-3 years for the effects to be beneficial enough for people to notice, and by then they will have spent the prior 2-3 years having it shoved down their throats that its the end of the world and Trump/Musk are evil and everyone who worked for the government was useful and efficient, to the point they forget how it actually was and start to believe it.
