Lots of interesting news today

I hadn't really thought about that... Looks like about 500 miles between borders. 1000 miles from Tel Aviv to Tehran.
Yep, it's why Iran focuses on proxy fighters and missiles/drones vs. their own army and capable air force.

If you subscribe to the Free Press (thefp.com), they have some great insights on what got Iran here in the last 6 years and what the key directions are for where this might go.

Bottomline, Israel is wiping out their 'successor' layer of leadership and letting the ayatollah rot in place. They neutered their proxy network, and are dismantling their missiles and key facilities/expertise to create more. U.S. involvement to destroy the Fordow nuclear facility would expedite the complete neutering of the regime, but it appears Israel will do it themselves if they have to.

If the U.S. strikes, there isn't much chance of a ground war because of the land gaps. As long as we don't get the dumb idea of "Regime Change" or trying to export democracy like we did got the last 20 years, this could be looking like a great summer.

On top of that you have a bunch of Feds that are getting retired earlier than they were planning that will start drawing. Same in private sector as jobs are drying up.

Cut it. Put what's left towards debt and let us cut our losses. Added bonus, every last politician at the national level would never be elected again and we could have a chance at fixing some shit.
I've been paying into for 30+ years. I want my money.

Appropriate timing is appropriate

I dont blame you. But at some point, we have to cut our losses. I ain't saying it's right, but it's inevitable imo.

Or.... we fix the system, adjust the pay in and pay out to balance, and apprpriately cut and balance elsewhere to make the gov solvent.

Or, we ditch a system that never should have been built in the first place. Anything not explicitly laid out in the constitution is not for the fed.gov.

nice theory but good luck w/ that.

You chose to pay in? Mine was stolen from my paycheck before I ever got it, and now I’m hearing I’ll never see it because a bunch of entitled douchebags on a totally different benefits plan completely mismanaged it AND degraded and destroyed the value of the dollar along the way.

No info on what the failure is?

I was thinking the same with yours

I think you both are delusional. I knew when I started officially paying into the gubment when I was 13-1/2 that there wouldn't be shit for me on the back end.

Honestly, I think a good portion of your generation don't expect anything from SS and the vast majority of mine don't. The writing has been on the wall my entire life. We're all ready just to see it end

The difference is that with my approach people still get the payout, even if it includes the pain of paying more to get less.

Dropping SS completely is such a politically unpopular idea that not enough elected politicians will ever vote for it. As mentioned above, people who've been paying in want their cut.

Since it's a pay-as-you-go system and nobody wants to just take away Grandma's food money, the only hope would have been a 20+ year gradual phase out so that current beneficiaries die off while the current younger generation pays less in. But it's too late to do that effectively now.

Good news is that even in 8 years or whatever on the current path, it isn't just stopping all together. We just don't have the funding to continue at the current benefit level. So you'll see a smaller shit.
