low flying plane over my house 2 nights in a row

i live in thomasville, on holly grove road, noticed a low flying plane 2 nights in a row outside buzzing the treetops over and over again, prop engine, and very loud. there is a small airport down the road. My wife calls the police, and we were not the first to call. I quote the military is doing black ops manuevers, they will be done my 10pm. Yep us thomasville rednecks are dangerous with all our guns. I guess ill set out on the porch and watch them tonight.
 
The National Guard keeps Apache and or Comanche helicopters at base at RDU and occasionally they have come screaming over our house at low altitude at night. It was really scary the first time I heard it, I thought the thing was crashing. The sound comes quick and very loud and shakes the whole house rattling the windows. They also do manuvers around Harris lake and the gamelads there. I was squirrel hunting years ago, far back in the woods and as one flew past low and nearby I hid behind a large treetrunk. They turned and came right over me and then began to fly away and return to buzz me at treetop level about every 10 mins. as I moved around and hid behind treetrunks each time I heard them coming back. I guess I was helping them practice w their FLIRR, but it was'nt helping me w the squirrels at all and after about 1/2 hour of this they flew low over an opening in the canopy, where I could see them clearly, maybe 250' away and I flipped them off! . They buzzed me one more time and then left me alone.

It's probably the rogue helicopter pilot on the loose again:
 
I was a young teen in the 80s in Yadkin Co. when half the county was growing weed.
I watched a low flying single prop plane circle and follow the edges of all the fields in our area one day.

As teens do, I had a really funny ( read: STUPID ) idea.

I snuck through the woods behind our house to a field they just started to circle and as the flew by on the far edge, I ran out to a big patch of weeds and cut down an armful and then ran back into the woods.
I could hear the planes engine roar to life so I dropped the weeds in the woods and ran home.

In 10 minutes the place was crawling with deputies and highway patrolmen.
No one knocked on the door so I assume they eventually found the weeds and left.

You should set out search lights, flood lights or stobe lights. Maybe even simulate a runway.
Or get a 10 bazillion candle power light and spot them.

I'm a pilot and a controller at RDU, and low altitude flying from a recip(piston) aircraft is more than likely either spraying pestacides, training on "ground reference maneuvers", being used for pipeline/powerline patrol, doing touch-and-go operations, or could be the Civil Air Patrol. All are quite common in surrounding areas of large cities. If you can get a clear view of the tail number, located on the rear sides of the aircraft starting with N*****, go to the FAA tail number lookup on faa.gov and you can get the make, model, registration and owner information amd see who it is and possibly what they are doing.
 
Oh and don't use any sort of lights to distract the pilot like Lizooki says, lol. Ask the guy in California who was using laser pointers on military and civilian helicopters how long he's been sitting in jail. That's a dangerous and bad no-no to the FAA and local law enforcement.
 
had those bastards a few days ago around North Hills.. damn house shaked and both kids woke up.. thanks ass holes

If you're talking about the BIG military plane, then it's the C-5 Galaxy if I'm not mistaken.

They flew over my house too, Trinity. They come down from Washington and do touch and go's at GSO. I guess they changed up their flight pattern a little, because I have them coming about 200' over my office on their regular practice touch and go's. It's an awesome sight to see. But by the time they hit the Trinity/Thomasville area, they are already about 1/2-3/4 mile up. you should them directly overhead at 200'-300' like I get to. TOO COOL and Super loud!

I lived 2 miles from RDU 12+ yrs ago and under the flightpath in a 70's modular home. We got used to the roaring passenger jets over time. One night I heard a very loud, earth shaking jet come over that seemed to go on for 5 mins like it was'nt moving as I wondered what the hell was that!! I read in the paper a few days later that a Russian jet very similar or larger than the C-5 had left the airport that night, possibly with a load of some of the GE jet engines they make nearby?

I thought there was a 1,000 ft minimum ceiling unless you are on approach or take off?

Only if you're in a congested area with dense population or structures. Then it's 1000ft vertical distance and 2000ft horizontal distance from the ighest object. Different approaches and departures have different minimum safe altitudes, but are generally assigened by the tower or approach/departure controllers.

I'm in Brier Creek right under the departure end of runway 5L and 5R. They're probably 2000ft over top my house on departure and the only ones that bother me are MD-80's used by the airlines and MD-11's and DC9's used by FedEx and UPS. Approach is never very loud as they're at much lower power settings. Only large military style aircraft I see from time to time are Air Force 179 refuelers doing touch and go's or low approaches.

A couple of weeks ago I was at the old mans house when its sounded like 400 Hells Angeles were coming up the street! Went outside and saw this.

I was driving home from work Monday and this thing was headed into GSO airport. Looked like it was just hoovering over I40 on final approach.

Lived down the street from him when I was a kid in CA. Used to ride a lot, then I got a drivers license. Sport bikes didn't last long. Would love to get into a super motard. The username stuck I guess.
 
Update, its special forces training, landing at a small airport down the road, landing in the dark with night vision, alot of the community went down to watch last night, we sat right near the runway. tailgate time.

North Hills is fawking terrible for air traffic noise. I wouldn't have guessed it, being as far from the airport as it is, but it must be under some flight path. Glad as hell to be back downtown, where we get to listen to the motorcycles on Capital Blvd instead. :lol:

Oh, and we get the Apaches, too. They must do maneuvers down east somewhere. We get them low and slow just over the treetops in the evening as they're heading back to RDU. I think they're pretty neat, but the neighbors all complain about "WRAL's helicopter".

B-17 Superfortress, a flying bomber, gunship from WWII, bombed the crap outa Germany and many shot down. They had man opererated/aimed machine guns on the nose,tail, sides,top and bottom. I love to hear those old airplane motors and the C-130s.

We get those Osprey (two prop, goofey looking plane/copter things) over our house about once a month. I can feel the nails in my walls jarring loose. I need to know who to send the bill to for repairing my drywall.
 
I'm ten minutes from Cherry Point MCAS, 40 minutes from Camp Lejuene, and no more than 60 feet from the railroad tracks. I never hear a thing! Unless they're on the bombing ranges....then I notice that a little. It's cool as hell to see an A10 with the submarine radar fly around, that's got to be one of the coolest planes ever.
