I was in Kansas City all last week, I kept looking at the 'hills' next to the highway like is in your picture to the right. It looks like the soil is real rocky and tough.

Doing some napkin estimates... if you were MM280 at 5pm EDT, you should be around Colby, maybe even approaching CO depending on fuel/food stops...?
