monster 4runner

Dang Rob, that thing looks great. I need to get by there and check it out in person.

I'm here all day today, and most of tomorrow....

That truck really looks good! I am looking foreword to seeing it in person. You got a lot of work done yesturday!

I saw this truck today in person. All I can say is the ground clearance is amazing!

The rig has been in the transmission shop for two weeks. I brought it home from the shop to take it to Cloverfest (a local car show) because my son wanted his friends to see it. I had it on the trailer and was taking it to the show but I needed to stop by the teller machine to get some lunch money. I turned on my blinkers and slowed down and started my turn into the bank. A guy was staring at the 4Runner and ran into the back of the trailer without ever touching the brakes!

It hit so hard that it caved in the back of the trailer, bent my slide in hitch almost 45 degrees and allowed the trailer to pop off the ball and cave in the tailgate of the truck. Nobody was hurt and it didn't damage the rig.

I think that I am going to put magnetic towing lights on the tailgate of the 4Runner so that people that are staring at the truck will see the lights...

You can wire the lights on the 4 runner like your towing it on a tow dolly and have a plug to plug it in to the trailer harness, I have considered this also, just for the cool factor

Good idea. I may do that.

That sucks Robert. Glad no one was hurt though.

I don't envy that guy having to explain this to his wife when he got home. "Baby, I totalled the car.... but you should have seen this 4Runner I almost hit! It was awesome!"

4-Runner

I was going to check in with you today. I am sorry to hear about your accident. I am glad to hear no one got hurt! It sounds like the guy hit you hard to do that kind of damage. I plan to start back up on the truck in the next 2 weeks so hopefuly we can get together. Also, the radiator fits up perfect! George

Cool! I'm glad the radiator fit. I really wanted to use it on mine, but it was not meant to be...

Give me a call and I'll be glad to help you out with the wiring.

Robert

When are you going to do a few short videos? I want to see this thing runnin and movin!

I have to say i love this rig but my favorite part is ho cummins emblem. That is awesome on a toyota.

The rig has been in the transmission shop for over a month now getting the 2nd gear band replaced. Three weeks sitting outside waiting it's turn; one week on the lift. It seems that the custom torque converter was dropped when reinstalling the tranny and a new one had to be ordered. It will not be in until Monday. (torque converter has to be removed to remove the tranny....)

I've got to the point now that when I call the shop for an update he tells me "it will be ready Monday". I ask "Which Monday?".

x2 on the good idea....

BTW - question. Do you have pins & hinges on the tube for the doors so you can open/shut or do you climb in/over?
can't really tell or else I'm blind.

Sounds like you have the same luck as i do. Everytime i send my stuff to a shop it takes months. Oh well maybe one day we will know everything so we don't have to let anyone else do the work lol. Oh and actually have the time to do it to.

The tube doors are hung on bolts. The front doors are hung from the front of the door frame. The back doors are hung from the back side of the door frame; suicide style. They can be removed pretty easily by removing the nyloc nuts and lifting the doors off. The door are latched on the center post. This allows the doors to be opened and closed easily.
Yesterday I installed a 4-pin light connector onto the rear of the trailer so that when the 4Runner is being towed I can plug it into the trailer wiring harness. Now I will have lights on the towed vehicle as well as the trailer. Hopefully this will make it a llittle safer to tow something that draws so much attention...

Got to climb up in this monster today. It's coming together nicely. I almost got a nose bleed sitting in the drivers seat, but if you don't look down it doesn't seem that high :D

I adjusted the suspension links and aligned the front end. I swapped the springs around and was able to drop the front end by about 3.5" and the rear by 1.5". The front coilovers are now single rates, and the rears are stiffer dual rates.

Yesterday I drove it at highway speeds for about 15 minutes. It drove pretty darn good. You can take your hands off the steering wheel at speed and it tracks straight with no wobble.:huggy:

It didn't happen un less we see some video :)
I will see what I have that can take a video. The last video camera that we had used tapes:shaking:. I'll see what can be done with the cell phone and also see if the digi camera has the ability to take short movies.

I'll bring my new video camera over sometime and shoot some for you. Ive been needing to try it out anyways.

The transmission stopped shifting. One second it was going through the gears perfectly. Stopped at a stop sign; first gear only...

I guess that I'll be back at the tranny shop tomorrow.

Same here. On a project that is so big a few things will go wrong for sure. You would think a trans shop could get it right the first time? That trans is not that complicated...
