Monster Jam

And be forewarned - the show that comes to the RBC is way smaller and kinda lamer than the ones I'd seen on tv beforehand...I went to one a couple years back, and was rather disappointed - the RBC arena is too small I guess for a lot of the bigger (cooler) stuff...

Yeah, RBC is small. I really wanted to go for the pit pass actually. We bought our tickets on-line and got pit passes.
We're suckas for the big trucks...these were from last year when we went to Florida.

We are actually taking my son to Atlanta next week

We go to CHT every year, but when we were in ATL for the peach bowl the tix were going on sale me and the wife walked up to kill time and got front row seats...

The GA Dome is bigger and should make for a better show, plus lil man LOVES Grave Digger...

BTW Digger's Dungeon is a neat trip for a day get away if you have kids...

Cool...I have past the dungeaon many times back and forth to hotlanta, IIRC I-85. Never stopped yet though. My boy is at the right age for this stuff now! woohoo!:bounce2:

The dungeon is in KDH out on the coast.

Took Lane last summer...he had a ball.

Dennis was there and signing autographs and stuff..he actually was nice and took time to talk to all the kids. Really impressed.

Advanced Auto has stacks of coupons to get you in the Pits for free. Snatch a couple of those and just get the regular tickets.
Yea, was lame compared to one I saw outdoors because it was so small. Still had some carnage though.
I have an aquaintance that rides a 4 wheeler in the 4wheeler race every year. He says they draw straws to see who's riding on the Team California and who's on the Team Carolina. And Team Carolina wins every year. LOL It's all for the kids to Booo Team California.
But the trucks isn't staged.

Oh,
I must have been thinking of something else. Maybe they had a garage right off I-85.

Thye still do the truck rides out back ?

I wonder why Bob Chandler does'nt do the Monster Jam shows.

Maybe because Bigfoot could jump the entire stadium!!
Have you seen the airplane jump? WOW!!

But seriously, anyone know why no Monster Jam?

i was thinking the same thing just the other day while watching monster jam on tv.

I believe certain trucks are affiliated with different racing associations, Kinda like the AFC and NFC of football, just no Superbowl at the end.

In the late 80s/early 90s there was a split.
Kind of like the CART/IRL BS.
Prior to that Bigfoot got 50% of the gate at every event. Basically The SE guys Gary Porter (Carlina Crusher) Dennis Anderson(Digger) and others broke off and did their own thing.

Now (IIRC) Monster jam is associated with USHRA, and the Bigfoot series is associated with IHRA.

The IHRA guys are more about a competition and the Monster Jam guys are definitely about a show.

For example TMNT wins about 3 races/year Charlotte (every other show) G'boro and Raleigh.

That way the majority of the toothless redneck fans go home "Dang Ol Grave Digger thinks he is something but he cant hang with that local boy"

Its really nice to see it in Bobcats arena. They jump 1 car and it is over. Thing is they dont have long enough to compensate, so in exchange you get trucks beat by half a truck length being called the winner.

Monster jam is WWF on 4 wheels. But they have Digger and that is all my son cares about, so they get my money. ::beer::

We went to an event at LJVM a few years back that was a "No name" affiliation... no BF or GD, but seems like Porter had a truck there.

Due to piss poor advertising, we arrived and the total attendance fit inside the 1st 2 rows of seats! Out of paranoia, we parked "several" rows back from the edge ("wall" from the floor is less than 6' tall)... good thing cause one of the trucks went to spinning/donuts and the remote kill didn't work! It was on 2wheels out of control and finally layed over (2 more complete revolutions) about 15' from the wall... could've easily gone into the seats cause the wall and handrails would've been nothing...

Tater & I have taken the kids for years, but have grown tired of the tiny venues around here. If you want to see the real show, catch them somewhere like Georgia Dome or Super Dome! PLENTY of room for them to windup, jump multiple cars, and great freestyles... NOT all hemmed up like the local arenas!

The back to school jam at The Dirt Track (at LMS) is neat every year.
It is big enough to attract "name" trucks but not muddled with the affiliation crap.

It really sucks at the RBC arena. One burp of the throttle and a single k-car later and they are at the end of the runway. The freestyle is still my favorite, I do go every year but its getting more lame as the years go on. Next year im going to vegas for the nationals.

Took the wife and kids to see BIGFOOT at an event last night in Charlotte. Not that much room to show off the power of the trucks.

Ok, so i've always wondered...
On the indoor shows, how in the world do they deal w/ all that dirt, getting it in, out, etc? That in itself has to be a pretty serious endeavor. I would think that must be the most expensive component of puttinh the show on...?

Damn all the monster truck tech, im gonna sound like ricky...

A few years back me and a friend got free tix to see the show in Charlotte by volunteering to work setup tear down. Basically got to hang out check out the trucks and got in to see the show on the back stage floor area of the Old Charlotte coliseum.

Anyway, what they did and I can only assume it is the same everywhere? Is put down some REAL THINK plastic. I mean this stuff was thicker than like pool liner, almost like rubber gym mats but still pliable enough to roll. Then they simply drove the trucks into the arena and dumped the dirt. Tear down was about as basic as it would seem, just scooped it up into dumps and then ran a parking lot sweeper through there at the end.

See, it's just a shitpile of dirt. it's just hard for me to imagine what it's like getting ALL of it out of there. I mean, I can see using scoops and all, but at some point ot comes down to just small handfulls - everywhere - that no scooper can really get. They just vacuum it all up? How long does that take? Must be a helluva vacuum.
I mean, i'm dumbfounded by how clean the LJVM is only a few days later for a WFU b-ball game...!

i dont know if any of you guys knew about this, but i believe wendys has coupons cuz on the little paper they put on the trays they had something about monster jam and dates.
