Of course they are, When they fall out of the sky it will be an engineer, programmer, or maintenance failure. It might not be logical, but I would be terrified to get into a pilot-less air vehicle!

When we make the switch to totally autonomous transport, and we will, There will be no need for it to be airborne. Might as well just be a bus or train, because we'll have already given up control of the trip to someone else. I don't see much reason to own my own vehicle if I can't be the operator.
