My apology

Not gonna lie...I think common courtesy there is to pull over and let them pass. Maybe he is just that much better of a driver in the wintery weather.

Oh how arrogant and wrong you are. There is no law that states that you have to pull over, there is however a law that states you must retain one car length of distance back for every 10 miles an hour.

There is never a reason to tailgate. Never. Think there is, guess again. There is never a reason to tailgate. Not any at all.

Ever look around after a snow storm and see how many vehicles have damage to their front and rear ends. I will guarentee you that 99.9% of those accidents were caused by following too closely.

If the driver in front of you is going slower than you want to drive then pass them when it is safe and legal to do so. Never tailgate.

I'm just saying getting behind the teenage girl in a VW bug going 5mph who is afraid of driving in any kind of 'weather' is kind of annoying to be behind. Flip side of that, if I'm her dad I'm proud of her being safe rather than sorry

I was behind her last night coming home... tell your darling little kawk gobbler to stop trying to hide her TEXTING as being "cautious" in 1/64" of snow! :flipoff2:

Since I never have to work when it snows...I go driving in it for fun only...
I usually drive faster than the majority in the snow..but, If I come up on a slower driver, I'll just back off and do a donut or two and maybe practice fishtailing for a 1/4 mile or so... This always allows the slower driver to gain some distance...When they're out of eyesight, I'll take off again. If I catch up to them again...I'll usually repeat the wreckless driving process. It can go on for hours at a time. But I NEVER...EVER tailgate or try to pass another driver...I'm afraid it'll freak em out and they'll crash. Plus its just rude.

For those of you that have to drive to work , school, be-on-time etc...I'd say..LEAVE EARLIER:rolleyes:Being late is rude.

And for the slower folks...
I'd say if someone was tailgating ya in snow...either brake check em' or get out of their way. Blocking is rude too.

Mr Tailgater,

I'm doing the speed limit, as required by my employer (and GPS tracked) when operating their vehicle.

The speed limit is 35mph, I'm doing 35. Apparently that's enough to piss off a certain black VW Golf GTI who shot past me last week as soon as there was a passing zone.

The unfortunate part is I also know that NCSHP regularly patrols this road during drive times, because of folks like you.

It was Also quite unfortunate ( for you ) that as soon as you cleared me ( doing well over the posted 35mph limit or even the 45mph zone we were entering ) and cross back over the double yellow you had just entered, there, coming thru the curve was Mr SHP, who promptly lit your ass up ( causing everyone you just past to have to stop) while he turned around to pull you and probably write you at least 2 love notes from the State of NC, County of Johnston.

maybe next time you take the hint that maybe, just maybe, there may be a reason.

Sincerely, the white Chevy van in front of you

The irony in your reprimand makes me giggle...a little reading comprehension can go a long way. Go back and re-read, where did I ever say it was law to pull over??? I didn't...I said be courteous (even said it in the line you quoted). And I don't think I posted anywhere that I advocated or condoned tailgating, I figured that was a given, and didn't have to dumb it down that far. I know you have a pregnant wife in the hospital, so instead of making a comment about your arrogance and pointing out the errors with your post, I'll just assume your nerves are shot and you're on edge.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying safety and caution shouldn't be taken...I'm just saying getting behind the teenage girl in a VW bug going 5mph who is afraid of driving in any kind of 'weather' is kind of annoying to be behind. Flip side of that, if I'm her dad I'm proud of her being safe rather than sorry.
I'm also not saying 'northern' drivers are gods when it comes to winter driving, just that they're more exposed and have more experience. As I'm sure folks from the mountains of NC probably have a little more exposure to winter driving than folks of the piedmont and coast.

Driving up North in the snow is a whole different thing than driving in the South in the snow. I'm from PA. You can drive the speed limit in the snow up there because they know how to clear the roads and prep them right. Down here no way. I'd be willing to bet that a majority of the cars in the ditch are people from up North driving like they would up there, but the roads aren't prepped the same.

I've had a few friends from up North end up in the ditch down here, which makes for fun drinking conversation.:lol:

I agree with those that say tailgating is never OK, especially in adverse conditions. The road was an untreated two lane country road. Posted speed limit is 45 due to curves and blind driveways, etc. My speed was 30 in the straights and 25 around curves. The road had snow where there were no tracks, and black ice in certain places where the snow had melted and refroze.

I feel my speed was as fast as you could safely travel given the conditions. I also feel that if I tried to turn into one of those private home driveways to let him by that there was a chance that he would not be able to stop in time and rear end me. He was that close.

The thing about tailgaters is usually they are little tiny zoom zoom cars, where the top of their roof comes to the mid line of my jeep, or dead center of sliders and bumpers, all of which are steel, not 5mph bumpers.

Buddy, if there is a fuck up, YOU are the crumple zone.

I'm talking I can't see their headlights, so they're looking under my jeep and at my bumper and tire carrier.

REALLY?

It reminds me of Smokey and the Bandit.

"Hey son, you aint gonna believe this. Some crazy sum bitch just tried to drive under my truck."

There's also no law that people can't park right in front of your tow rig in a parking lot. Does that make it right? :driver:
I think he handled it right in this situation though. If it's just one car just give them some room to pass when an appropriate passing zone comes up. If you have half a dozen vehicles lined up behind you then you should pull over and let them pass. It's common courtesy. Nobody wants to be car 7, 8, 9, etc. in a pack like that because there's no way you're going to make it to the front to pass without doing something reckless. Some people won't pass a farm tractor in a 55MPH zone. While I don't have a lot of sympathy for them I do feel for the guy stuck 5 cars behind them.

My post has nothing to do with stress or child birth or anything else. It has to do with asshole tailgaters who have no regard for anything other than their own destination in mind.

I never said a work about a pull over law no did I insinuate that you stated there is one. I said that anyone who tailgates ain a douche who deserve huge fines for their stupidity.

I never said a work about him parking. You are just one of those peicial people who can't stand it when they are proven wrong and have to try to put the person who proved them wrong down.

However that is all I will say on the subject because arguing on the internet is like trying to teach a pig to dance. It wastes time, irritates the pig and makes you both step in shit.

Nissan makes a 4WD? That's weird, what do they look like?

I had a Datsun 4WD when I was 17, if there was dew/rain on the front yard grass it couldn't drive across it.

Let me ask everyone a question. If I'm driving down the interstate in a 65mph zone doing 70mph in the left hand lane should I get over to let people pass going 80-85 or should I take the finger and stay in the left lane? Keep in mind I'm already doing 5 over.

If you're impeding traffic (I use that loosely, because they could move over as well, but what if you start moving over late, or there's traffic that will block them again) and are able to move over, move over.

I dont care how many over you're going, if there's room in the right lane, get the fawk over. Left lane is for passing, not lolligagging 5 over.

It's a law in many states. It's also called the hammer lane.

X2!!!
I just realized I used a law (Move Right) as an excuse to break another law (Speeding)! LOL!:shaking: Oh Well, this is North Carolina and thats just the way we roll.:driver:

SUDDENLY this discussion has become all (need to embed it)

i agree 100%, the left lane is called the passing lane, if your not passing, get out of the way.
i admit, i drive 10 over the speed limit, but i don't look at the speedo much. my main concern is to just keep with the flow of traffic.(even if i'm the i'm creating the flow) i have also not had a speeding ticket in over 10 years.
i hate tailgaters and i will brake check one in a minute, if they don't get the hint, i will pull over and let them pass, then i show them how to do it the right way. i have actually stopped in the middle of the road and ran back to a persons car before and cussed them out(i was much younger and not everyone had guns then)

I'll tell ya this, i-40 east or west bound morning or afternoon, I'll be the white van in the middle lane doing the speed limit.

Hammer lane is wide open and I'm not gonna prairie dog the school buses in the right lane going 45mph and get jammed up behind when some ass hat ( guy in the white van ) is jamming along @ 65 mph in the center lane......

what if I feel like I may save a life by slowing down someone driving 85mph?
As far as impeding I'm already 5mph over.

Dude. If you want to save lives, become a doctor. Let people make thier own choices. The law is sitting just ahead, and I promise they will deal with them. :bounce2:
