Where is a good place for a family to go to a campground for a weekend? I would love to hit the outer banks but thats a little far to drive for a weekend.

Sorry, just realized you asked for BEACH campgrounds. We really like hitting the Myrtle Beach State Park. It's closer than the Outer Banks and relatively cheap. Its about $28.00 a night or somewhere around there. It has it's own beach and pier.

Zooland is about 15 mins away. The wife and kids demand beach time, i wanted to stay in nc so i could stretch a line and not have to buy a sc fishing license.

We just came back from Wilmington koa. Kids love the pool and playground etc. and the beach is only 10 mins away. Parking sucks around Wilmington but it is due able.

Carolina Beach State Park.
Nice place, great bathhouses, no electricity.

The other 2 campgrounds there on River Road near Snows cut are holes.

Ended up booking jelly stone camp ground in tabour city..... No fishing but there seems to be way more than we can do there in one weekend, plus I can try out the golf cart!

Not sure about camping, but Atlantic Beach and Emerald Isle are pretty nice.

F that place. We camped there several years ago. They lock the gate outside from like 9pm to 6am. Bugs were unbelievable. No breeze up in the woods to blow them away.

Most all the private beach campgrounds in N.C. are gone. Salter Path and Emerald Isle were very nice back in the day. The skeeters only came out at night in the sites w alot of trees and if you were near the beach they would never bother you.

Yeah, the Salter path Family Campground was huge, fairly nice and seemiingly there since the dawn of time. Property was still there the last time I was there.
Dern shame that all the good campgrounds from my youth are gone.

I think the rates for tent sites were $7 or $12 in the 70's for both campgrounds, sites closer to or on the top of the dunes were a little more and often the places were half empty. I have fond memories of staying at those campgrounds many times, smells of coleman stoves and breakfasts/fish fry dinner and lunch and laying in a sleeping bag full of sand at night trying to sleep w a terrible sunburn from playing in the surf all day long.............good times :D
