Somebody chime in - do u legally need to have s handgun permit to own one in NC??? Bet not. But just checking.
And in the eyes of the government, the difference is - what? You just described a terrorist group, I'm talking about a Civil War level conflict.
Why would it take the ENTIRE military? It only takes a sufficient portion to carry out the order. I'm sure even if 25% refuse, the remaining 75% is good enough.True.
But, you are assuming that the ENTIRE military would be willing to turn on its brothers/sisters/families.
If something REALLY happened that caused a legit large uprising from the general public, that was willing to die for its cause, then the gov't would have to dispatch people that were willing to kill and destroy people and places they know.
Well said, and i agree. Why would it take the ENTIRE military? It only takes a sufficient portion to carry out the order. I'm sure even if 25% refuse, the remaining 75% is good enough.
And there are PLENTY of examples from history of state military personnel being willing to carry out horrible things on their neighbors. All it takes is the right level of coercion and fear.
Now, do I really think this is a legitimate potential problem? Not really, but it's worth the academic discussion.

This! I like this! Asking the government to fix stupid people is why huge portions of MY pay check goes to non working stupid people sitting on their ass. The government needs to back off. If you have to pay for it and beg for the government's permission then it's not much of a right.I agree with Stretch and Snappy on the stupidity of lots of folks.
However I think the point Jeff is making is one that Ratlab has alluded to without outright stating it.
I think we all agree there are a bunch of dumbasses out there who don't know how to handle a gun.
I think we all agree they and all of us would be better if they were educated on how properly to use a gun.
It is not the governments ROLE to mandate people not be dumbassses. In fact allowing the government to dictate ownership eligibility contingent upon , well anything, is in fact a direct violation of the 2nd Amendment.
Now if a PRIVATE company wants to mandate training before transaction, that is a different animal. Lets say, for example, Smith & Wesson says, there is a new S&W ownership course that teaches gun safety and responsible ownership. We refuse to sell a firearm to anyone who hasnt completed this course. I would wholly support that company and probably shift some of my purchases to them for that reason. But for a government entity to mandate it? Well that is just a slope towards infringement. Its one of the reasons a conservative congress was so adamant that when background checks were phased in there had to be a set maximum duration where by if it wasnt completed it defaulted to approved. Otherwise all background checks would strangely take 99 years...same thing here.
The simple answer is No, you do not need to have a permit to purchase from a private party.
What does it mean to "match their weapon"? Probably a silly question.as I read this I think of the two people that showed up for my CCW range time with calibers that didn't match their weapon. they were issued a refund and were asked to leave very politely.
I don't understand being against constitutional conceal carry. For instance, I currently own a hand gun. I applied for and received a hand gun permit. Now that I legally own said hand gun I can legally carry it in a holster strapped to my side. I can place it on the dash of my vehicle, which is retarded btw. But I can't put it in my pocket because I haven't had a class. I can't put it in in the glove box where it belongs. The logic behind this thought process is flawed.

Do we really allow these idiots that we elect to barge into every single move we make? How did it come to this?
License to drive
license to marry
license to fish
license to hunt
license to business
license carry a weapon now gets questioned..
Permit to build
permit to burn
I am sure there are many, many more that I can't think or don't know about.
The gooberment has regulated every aspect of our lives.
I am waiting for the License to use the toilet then a tax on said license.
To think, the founders of this country went to war over 2% tax on fucking tea...
It all became necessary because of the idiots that refused to do the aforementioned safely. You need a license to marry to make sure that Billy Bob wasn't marrying his sister Bobby Sue. You need a license to fish because there needs to be a limit on what one person can pull out of a lake before the lake is fishless. License to hunt because Billy Bob kept shooting his sister Bobby Sue when he was aiming through his beer-goggles. Business licenses keep Billy Bob from selling skanky deer meat popsicles to Bobby Sue. Billy Bob needs a permit to build his trailer park in the sky because 2x4's made of balsa wood won't hold the trailer in the tree. He then needs a permit to burn the trailer and balsa 2x4's. Do you think we need to give Billy Bob a gun without asking for a permit? Maybe we should give one to Bobby Sue to keep Billy Bob from hitting on her.
And no..... I don't believe that everything needs to have a permit, tax and bureaucratic application paperwork to get done, but someone needs to protect Billy Bob from himself. There are WAY too many Billy Bobs. Don't believe me, spend an hour or two on YouTube.
