To all,
This is the information I have been able to get about the NC House bill (H2008) designed to start a trust fund for Off Highway vehicle use in North Carolina. I spoke w/ Representative Crawford’s contact in Raleigh about the bill and found out there is as of now no Corresponding bill in the NC Senate. I am waiting on a return call as to whether the “off Highway vehicle” definition includes Jeeps and other 4WD vehicles.
I will encourage you however to call you local representative to support (too late to cosponsor) this bill and to also call your local NC Senator to introduce a similar bill in the NC Senate.
Below is a link to the exact bill and information regarding it.

Remember this is a bill in Raleigh, NOT the US House of Representatives in DC.
Thanks,

can't we cross post/sticky this in chit chat for more exposure??

Anybody got a petition together or anything?

Posted this response in the thread under "Land Issues" but since we got two threads on the subject :( I'll repost it here. One of these threads oughta be locked and hotlinked to the other one.

This is a bad bill, not a good one.

Registration for ATV's is it's focus, with $$$ coming from plates and titles. Plus property tax notices you'll get from your local county on everything registered that is currently "off the books". And this will only lead to emissions testing and requirements on all our toys, meaning more money and freedom taken from us.

The money that goes into off-road projects will be a drop in the bucket compared to what is paid in. :(

Bad, bad, bad. Don't be gullible with a little money waved in front of your noses.

"Don't worry, we are from the government, and we are here to help you."

i don't see how it can lead to emissions testing when pre 96 vehicles were just phased out.

personally, i'm not into atv's so the issue of having extra exspenses for one doesn't matter to me. i also have no desire to ever build a buggy or otherwise strictly off road only vehicle.

anything i'm driving on the trails is already costing me title, registration, property tax, etc.

even if only a small portion of the money goes to our cause, it's a good thing imo.

at the least, it shows we have some government officials that might care about expanding or at least keeping what we have open. that's promising i think, it could be a bill to close lands or to divert current funds elsewhere.

I have to agree with Kaiser 715, another smoke screen from the legislative crooks to suck more tax money from our pockets.
The FBI needs to brought in and investigate the whole crowd at the Legislature. We've only seen the tip of the iceburg.

:shaking:
