I was stepping on this guys neck @6:10 AM in Pennsylvania on April 29th. He flew down 150yds out on a ridge top pasture and I shot him at 30yds. An hr and a half later we heard a bird gobble less than 30yds from us and totally ambushed him. Turned out to be a nice 3yr old. 9.5” bears, 1 3/8” and 1 7/16” spurs. It was a good morning!

Fast forward to May 7th, I was hiking my ass off all morning near Pisgah NF and finally struck a good bird far out about 10:10 am. The second call revealed he was closing the distance QUICKLY. I scrambled to get set up and shot him at 30yds @10:20am.

That was the last chance I got to hunt turkey this year, ended well.

Congrats!!

On a side note, that last pic looks like a turkey sucide scene.

Finally got my buddy on a bird(his 1st). It was not your typical turkey hunt. We hunted another farm and had birds talking first thing but they would never come in. My guess is they both hooked up with hens and went their way as soon as they flew down. We packed up, and drove to another farm to look around. While there, we found someone elses blind/decoys/etc on our property and nobody else has permission to hunt. I'll let you decide what we did....

Anyway, we go to our third and final farm. Drop the cable gate and drive about 50 yards and I see about 4 turkeys in the field about 150 yards from us. Stop, get out and they take off. We cut through the woods and circle back around them. I had a hunch that they just got out of sight and stayed in the field feeding. We sneaked up on them and saw them in the field about 40 yards away. 6 total turkeys. 3 hens, 2 jakes, and a nice tom. Didn't care a bit about us calling. So we setup my buddy right in the cutover between the fields and I circled back into the woods about 50 yards and stayed there. Our other friend went almost all the way back to the truck and started walking the woodline down. Pretty much a turkey drive. Birds took off and ran right into our trap. 5 mins later the tom was down at about 15 yards. He was probably a 3-4 year old bird. 8" beard, 1 1/2" spur on one side and about a 3/4" nub on the other. We smoked him that afternoon with pecan wood and he was delicious. Now my buddy is hooked

I decided this year to buckle down and get back to my roots, fishing heavily on the weekends and after work. So far, really good.

Been behind on my turkey hunting this year and it has been slow when I go. I’ve killed 1 and my daughter has shot 1. Called in 1 that was missing a beard. He gobbled twice on opposite ridge and came in spitting and drumming all the way to us. I called my daughter off him at 16 yards. I was trying to see his spurs and had a fallen log in the way. I feel bad about that. Figured he had gotten beard rot? I’ll throw in a pic of my daughters buck from this past season as well

I called in a bird like that a couple weeks ago. 2 jakes came in about 10yds behind him and never got closer to him. He had a full blown gobble rocking the woods for a solid 35min before he flew down. Jakes were to his right and did their best to answer him. He got about 12yds directly broadside in front of me and had a big nub like the end of a cigar. Made me sick. After giving up on finding me he walked out to 25yds or so and stood and gobbled for 5 minutes while I recorded him with my phone before I spooked him off and went to my next spot. If I could have made out his spurs I may have shot him anyway. Full fan, big head, awesome gobble, no beard.

I've been packing my rod in my truck just in case I had time to fish whenever I do some work on my in-laws cabin. Got hit by a couple yellow-jackets this morning so I was determined to turn their little larva into bait this evening....only had about 20 minutes to hit the creek before the hour long ride home, but managed two nice fish. Catch and release.....

Took our son fishing for the first time this weekend. Also got to go trout fishing for the first time. Dad caught a nice golden rainbow trout.

Oh my. :smokin:

That's a nice catch.
I remember the days when me and a buddy used to go out in kayaks and fish on these rocks right below the dam on Fishing creek reservoir on the Catawba. @RHSCTJ will know exactly where I'm talking about. We used to paddle out to this one rock in particular and cast out with surf rods and catch so many big cats we damn near sunk our kayaks getting back to the landing. I volunteered to take the three biggest ones back in my 10 foot kayak and they easily weighed more than I do combined.

Yep. Beautiful spot. I wish we could get jeeps out there. It would be killer rock crawling. I got burned out on catfishing when all I cared about was beating my personal best. I realized by the time you had 6 rigs ( big cat fever rods with abu garcia c3 cat special reels) got to have the latest greatest zakk royce planer boards, ohh now jason created drifting stix, I had so much money tied up in it a 30 lb blue would piss me off. Took all the fun out of it. It's been about 2 years since ive been catfishing. I have just been targeting crappie and white bass on light tackle and having way more fun. If my new boat had a jet id probably still be rock fishing but im done with cats for a while.

That island that splits the old Catawba canal and the new canal right there in great falls would make the sickest off-road park this side of the Mississippi. They call it mountain island and as far as I know it's owned by Duke power. You couldn't even touch it for under 30 million. Even the old rock bed in the old Catawba canal would be the most exhilarating rock crawling challenge I've ever experienced.

Yep. Have you seen the white water park they are building in great falls? If they would just give us a weekend when the water is off. Not sure how the whitewater crowd will get along with the locals. Just think of the idea of a gentrafied flop-eye diner.

Great falls is actually a pretty cool little town, but yeah I totally agree the locals are....... interesting. I'll have to look into that that sounds like it's right up my alley.

Well mine does...I mean it aint new but still gets it.
Say when...

Me and @Junkyard Dog leased a lil spot of heaven on earth. I been down there assin off all day and it was great!! Got a ton of river frontage on the deep and I seen alot of deer sign and a few deer. Not that I will hunt them bet heard a bobwhite whistling while I was unloading the tractor too. Mowed awhile chopped a few limbs out of the trails and then piled my big ass up in the river to cool off and catch a few bream. Only pic I took today...

Been wearing out the snook and drum down here in Boca Grande, Florida. It’s the tarpon capital of the world supposedly. Honesty I’ve seen them everywhere and hooked up on two. Lost both Bc of the 100 other boats in the pass. It will frustrate the hell out of you because of how many people do not give a damn about anything besides themselves, or they are just dumb as shit with no situational awareness. Literally had a boat go right over my line that wasn’t even 20 yards in front of the boat I was on the bow while fighting a tarpon. I yelled several times for people to get the hell out of the way while we chased after it. Honestly that damn tarpon kicked my ass for 30 mins before dumbass went right over my line and cut it off with the prop. We’ve got the lines marked for depth because there is a 80ft hole in the pass and the rest of the water is around 40-50ft deep. I never saw our 60ft mark the whole fight.
