Thanks Chutney. Now is the time tho to put down the gloves and have a big ole group hug.We all know what this hobbie is about. This hobby and my reenacting has netted me friends statewide and for this I wouldn't change a thing.I've got 200 brothers in the 26th that I can lean and rely on and I'm one for them.I've made friends in this hobby also that would throw down to help as i would for them.Friendship is all important to a person's well being.Nobody can argue that!

Aw come on folks... it's over. Those of us who can't read have made our amends, in one way or another, and those who can read did it right from the beginning. I think the whole thing is a great idea, and I hope/plan to participate. Regrettably, I already have other plans for the Labor Day weekend, but I hope there will other rides to follow. :)
Granny, you are more than welcome to come ride with us.I'll even let you drive ole Nellie Belle if you want.Make you appreciate that ole cj5 a whole lot more.We are doing a Callalente ride over the thanksgiving weekend if you want to hook up.I think this will be our fourth trip up.

[*]It is also no lie to say that there are some wheelers in this majority that have shown disdain one time or another when they have crossed the path of a vehicle they deem not hardcore enough to share the trail with.

It is also no lie to say that some people were offended by the wording in the OP.

OP meant no harm - he did not mention names, clubs, nor trails but simply described an attitude that no one can deny is out there - I have seen it, you have seen it, they have seen it.

No one said he meant harm, his choice of words caused harm. I would have preferred that the OP named names!

It boils down to the freedom of speech y'all - if you feel that the mission statement of this new club offends you then take a different path to enlightenment.

That quote is more of a statement of "attitude" than any perceived slight from "the big tire crowd"! I have been on both sides of this fence and my experience has been that the small tire crowd can be just as judgmental as the rest.

btw - 1st Post

Not that good of a start IMO :) Like Don recommended, I too think this should be put to rest but but I just had to comment on the attitude of someone commenting on "attitude" :) I would welcome the chance to meet you and discuss wheeling philosophies, PM sent. I'm heading down the The Flats Saturday for the Benefit Ride and have an open seat if you would like to come along!

im all down for this. i tried strarting my own club, but it didnt go well. maybe in the future. i was intimidated by some other clubs cause they were ALL jeeps and really tricked out while im sitting on 4" and 33s with my old 77 F150.
as this comes together i will consider joining. cant wait for the first meet/trail ride.

PS i like to go all out and try about anything, but i know my limits. im more into trail riding myself. i think a good driver with good tires and a locker or 2 can do most anything at Uwharrie

Is it not enough that I have appologised for steppin on toes?
J.C.,you said you rather I had put names into the post.I will not provide fuel for that engine.

And Burrellsjeep, you know i enjoy a challenging trail also friend.I rode with ya'll july 4th and we had a good time.

I'm lookin for this thread to either get locked, moved to the outhouse,or deleted . You know what tho,it has allready served it's purpose and if it completely dissapears so be it.The word is out.

After speaking with Jimmy we would like to request anyone who is still offended by our leading post about our group, please take it upon yourselves to rewrite it and we will replace it, assuming your rewrite follows our group purpose. Keep in mind that the OP was derived from discussions among our core group not one person.

We'd like to thank everyone who supports our groups idea and purpose, as well as everyone who joined up today. Remember it's free.

We have apologized and explained ourselves repeatedly and it seems that some have proven our point for continuing to push this as a problem.

As far as we are concerned this thread has served it's purpose to get the word out, PM us if anyone has further questions, Thank you.

I think the easiest way to fix all this is to drop the comments about the club being founded to counter the go big or go home attitude.

My problem is not with the idea of the club but with the fact that the wording in the OP has caused division in our ranks. It seems it has also given those who have more stock size tires and who want to express their attitude toward the large tire crowd a venue to do so. It's not an "us" and "them" thing, or at least it shouldn't be! I've ridden with Chip and the big tire crowd in my ZJ on 31"s and I've ridden with mostly stock rigs in my 42" tired rig. I had fun every time!

I also apologize for any misunderstandings I may have caused, not my intention at all. Again, I applaud your efforts. My current rig has 30" tires so I guess you'll see me at some of your rides :)

dont ya'll see what there doing? this was all just a despicable plot to get hits on the thread! just think, if they had posted "ya'll are all welcome to join our wheelin' group." and ended it there, this may have gotten a handful of replies. but now that we have controversy, this is the most read thread on the first page of general chit chat. whew, Im tellin' ya. you gotta watch out for some ppl on here. they're slick! :)

JC,I apologize also man.I guess we all got caught up in the moment.Let's put this crap behind us now. I think the horse is now dead.

yea Joe(mudder),it was all a ploy.I am the puppet master and all are my minions.

Anyhow, why ain't you posting on the group site? Why aren't you planning on UNF labor day weekend or talking about your plans? Why haven't you introduced yourself on the intro thread? Hello? Anybody in there?

hey Joe...check it out man.Twenty two have signed up as of 10:14 tonight. There are 8 of us that have been wheeling for a long time so 14 came about from either seeing the club section on their own or from this posting. Now comes the transition from just internet talk to actually meeting up and wheeling.

WOW Jimmy, You sure got a lot of feedback! I was just raggin about the 35's of which I am sure you understood:beer: I really enjoy wheelin with you and old nellie bell for sure. Hope you got the front axle fixed from the last outing. I abosulety support your club and what it is intended for. As others have stated, I really enjoy wheeling something light and more stockish as well as helping the new folks that are getting into the sport. It will not be long that I will have my 4 banger XJ on 33's ready to hit the trails. Can't wait to hook up with you. Keep me posted on the trips. I will make as many as I can!!!

see! I knew it. You can't fool me no more, I done found out your last name. hahahaha (best mad scientist laugh) :flipoff2:

Ahhhh, how quickly you forget how it really went...

haha, burn.

You ALL make me feel so out of place. I have 1 big tire in the front & 2 little tires on the back of my rig. Every one of you is just plain mean. I'm gonna tell my moma.

Ahem, Um, Everyone is welcome, we'll try and keep you shiny side up.

OP speaks the truth:
  • Stock wheeling is a blast
  • His club intends to further that type of fun and use it as a way to bring more people into the sport
  • No one can deny that the majority of vehicles on the well known trails are modified
  • It is also no lie to say that there are some wheelers in this majority that have shown disdain one time or another when they have crossed the path of a vehicle they deem not hardcore enough to share the trail with

I disagree.
Buy a red diamond and I'll see you then.
I started as a URE rookie. 83" wb cj5. (Still own it)
Go big or go home is a metaphor for if you break it it more than once, time to upgrade.

ain't thaty one of them skidder things with the chain on the tire?I've seen crop sprayers like that too.

Jimmy,

Had a great time wheeling with ya, And looking forward to doing it again sometime. I understand what you guys are putting together and I think it is a great Idea and that there is ton of need for a group like this. When I started out I would have loved to meet up with some wheelers that would be willing to "show me the ropes". That has been one of my goals with our club also, Helping point the newer wheelers in the right direction.

Good Luck with the Club

Mike

I had typed 3 replies to this yesterday but deleted before posting.. But since this has gone full circle I will now reply with a suggested rewording.

Your post: We have decided it is time to start a new group of wheelers. A group getting back to the basics of what it was to wheel in the great outdoors. No "go big or go home" ideas here. All are welcome to join us for rides but we are looking for mainly stock to slightly modified rigs with a max tire size of 33 inches and one locker. This group is being formed not only for us that are secure in the size of our rigs and our abilities but also as a training base for folks new to the experience without the pressures associated with riding with groups of modified to ultra modified rigs. Welcome, let's talk it up,and let's go wheeling! Jimmy Jones: ord.sgt.26NC, Len Williams: Rox&Mud (pm us with questions) or CLICK HERE for access.

My suggestions:
We have decided it is time to start a new group of wheelers. A group getting back to the basics of what it was to wheel in the great outdoors. We typically travel and camp in a group setting.

This group is truly open to EVERYONE. This is a group where new folks can gain experience and seasoned veterans can slow down and enjoy things they once did. We typically ride the low difficulty level trails where larger tires and vehicle modifications are not generally required. No one gets left behind riding with us. We encourage leading by example and helping others along the way.

We encourage EVERYONE to consider not just tagging along, but joining our group. We do not ride extreme or high challenge trails but focus on a slower relaxed pace. We take time to focus on socializing and friendships that come with a fun family oriented atmosphere.
------------------

my .02 statements like 'we'll let you ride with us' or MAX xyz or no ultra modified rigs screams insecurity.
I HATE to see references to 'hard core' or 'extreme' why not say 'serious' or 'dedicated' 'seasoned' I've seen people on 31/32 that have wheeled for 30+ years and are more prepared than most. I wouldn't label them simple based on tire size or mods. Especially true when many 'upgraded' parts can be cheaper than a stock replacement. Modifications are a inherent part of this hobby keeping pace with damage and breakage and accelerated wear from off-road use.

All that said......

I think it says a lot that you have offered to reword your mission statement. Before I would have considered 'riding' along. Now I would consider joining.

The idea is great! The manner in which it came across is not. Obviously, because of the responses above, some folks feel that you have "had to put up with them for years"; uncool. I am not one of those, I understood the OP, but instead of promoting unity it has promoted division. I'm just saying that it could have been worded differently and avoided creating division when what we need in the OHV community more than anything right now is unity of purpose!

winner.

the more I've read the more I don't like what I hear. Rox & Mud, you need to stop and think before you type. I can find something objectionable in every one of your posts. Currently, you are reinforcing the division.

Well I worked all night and just finished reading everything that was posted. Dang, didn't mean to open such a big can!

I too think with the right leadership this group as some definite possibilities. To be honest, there has been a need for a group like this for a long time. You have the opportunity to teach a young guy or gal, the basics. Teach them to stay on the trail, and why, teach them how to navigate an how to select the right line. Teach them how to prepare for a day, 3 day or a three day weekend of Wheeling fun. Teach them what to look for when you are getting your rig ready to go play. Teach them basics of upkeep and maintenance. Teach them how to operate a CB. Teach them how to select a tire, and for what purpose. Teach them how to act at camp, and on the trail. Teach them how to cook on a Coleman and what to pack for what ever weather camping. Teach them to tell lies around a campfire. Teach them how to build a fire. Teach them to .....
The list is endless. I have been Wheeling for 30 years, and still learn things. You have a rocky start in some peoples views, and I'd bet my paycheck that there is someone out there that is as excited as hell to find such a group. Go for it , make it Positive always.
Good luck and I am sure I will run into you or ride with you at some point in time.
