How far north of Duck & Corolla (on N.Beach Access > Sandfiddler) can I go *WITHOUT* 4WD?

Want to go all the way up TO the state line, but stay out of anything that could turn into a recovery event driving the dually (would prefer to drive AWD car)... 2 days before Christmas! Appears I can do that and stay off the beach/outta the sand, but GoggleMaps has wronged me before!

MOMENTUM!!! Get a run off the asphalt and head for the water!!!

On a serious note, like Rob said, as soon as you drop off the pavement it will be soupy as hell, probably the worst spot on the beach. I wouldn't try it in a 2wd unless it wasn't mine :D

If going in 2wd, reduce air pressure to whatever the lowest you can and hold the tire on the bead.

Seen many 2wd econoline vans on the beach at hatteras.

All had wide and tall tires practically flat. Most were 33x12.5 on 10" wheels or wider and just enough air to retain the bead.

Your enemy will be front end weight bias on non driven wheels.

Momentum is everything. Keep moving, but don't spin.

OK, let me rephrase the question... how far north can I go and stay on the asphalt? Maps shows a development of some sort at the very north end of OBX... way too many roads (like a gridded neighborhood) for sketchy roads?

Corova, NC: It's all sand there. Switch to satellite view and zoom in. Then go on Google Images and search for pictures.

That area actually IS in grids...but they're all sand.

We're rented a house out on the 4x4 beach every year for several years. Not that far north (we don't rent further than the fires station) but we go up that way exploring

The farther north towards the state line you on behind the dunes the less structured it gets. When my buddy lived down there his boss lived a mile or two past the two houses that sit right at high tide. (I realize that's a shitty reference point lol)

High tide houses, Firestation, public shitter, hang glider dune.....Yeah all spots you kinda have to KNOW to figure out where the hell you are LOL

To the OP if you wanna do it. I would go out straight to below the high tide line the sand is usually packed harder. I've seen people pulling camper and car haulers up the beach idk if I'd do that though

Anyone ever heard that town called "hell" before?

I was out there in 2000 and stripped the stock hubs out in my lifted ranger. Quickly got it buried and no one was in sight. After a short time a trash truck came out of that town and pulled me all the way to pavement.

Watch out for stumps!!!

One of those mega movers shows pulled a few houses out of Corova down the beach. Wouldn't want it to be my house unless they have really good insurance.

OK, so pavement ends in Cordova.
Can I bypass getting *ON* the beach and stick to the "roads" Or are they sketchier than the beach?

Just trying to avoid trailering all the way out (for what will be an hour stay) or taking/burying an 8500# truck to the frame... granted, it's 4wd, but stock sized ATs & zero recovery gear
