Who else got one on the way to the flats the trooper said I was his 3rd git me for 7000 over

Yea you gotta watch out on I40 there, gonna guess it was near MM 144 (weigh station), or did they use the portable scales?

I got pulled there last year going to the Flats Ecors race, was about 3K overweight, which was about $80-$90. My new trailer is registered as a camping trailer so I don't have to worry about weight anymore.

What were you tagged for? Gonna guess around the 7-8K mark if you were 7K over.

They will still write you the ticket, you just have to go to court to beat it. Frickin' DMV nazis have more freedom than the CIA.

I had one of them pull up next to me the other week and you could see him running my tag. He then pulled up next to my window and waved and then took off. I guess the 18k tag was good enough not to stop me and put me on the scales. But that is an expensive tag to renew every year.

They were working Mooresville drag strip traffic all last year. All those "Not for hire" stickers didnt help with the under tagged toter homes and trucks. It got so bad people were boycotting the track so they got a DMV guy to hold a class at the track to inform everyone what the laws were.

They were at the stables today, I guess getting URE guys and the poeple drinking and driving. They had a set of scales there too. They were set up about 1/2 mile aprt so you couldnt turn either way out of the stables without getting checked....

If the rate I found was right an 18k tag is right at 280?

I was wondering if you got a ticket when I passed you today. Tried finding you to talk but couldn't. That really sucks but you had to know you were illegal. You must just barely be tagged enough for your truck if you got 7000 over. Let us know what it costs you cause in reality it is probably cheaper to get than a weighted tag. Just got mine in the mail $311 for 20k lbs.

Unless it's a toy hauler I'd say your wrong. If it's a flatbed registered as a camper your screwed I'd say when they catch you.

He hauls a big enclosed I believe. So he could get away with it.

This has been the norm for the last few years in the spring.

I had heard there were like 4 people who got tickets for over weight.
The time was when you had to be doing something wrong to get pulled. These days IMO the State is pretty broke and they are doing whatever they can for revenue.
But in all honesty if you have pulled at least two years without the weighted tag, and get a ticket, then you have actually saved money. But if you get a repeat ticket, then you start going in the hole.

I had the exact same thing happen to me on my way home from the Flats back in January.

me too, on 421 riding up to Callanatee in 2009, except I didn't get the courtesy wave. I've got a $133 13k tag.

7k over? holy cow.
The *only* nicet hing about Maryland - no weighted tags ;-)

Uh... yeah they do. Check your registration. I've been pulled and weighed on MD439.

I've been told repeatedly that if you're pulling a camper, only the weight on the truck tires matters. Only problem is, I can't find this in the regulations anywhere. Chapter 20 is pretty vague about weighted tags, it's got to be in the DMV regulations somewhere.

One of our guys got one yesterday, 3k over, 95 bux.

I am tagged at 19k. I figure better safe than sorry. What would the implications be if someone was overweight and got in a wreck causing injury to persons in the other vehicle? Even if you were not at fault my gut feeling says you would get the book thrown at you. Anyone know for sure?

State DOT regulations are often Federal, but not always. FMCSA stuff is obv federal, but a lot of details vary from state to state.
