Wasn't there 2 of them, and one had a generally bad rep?

Someone who is familiar with GM performance...

Is CAM the good one, or bad one? :p

The clutch system on my t/a needs some work, (it's a known issue with the f-bodies) and I would really like to find someone who could tell definitively whether or not a new slave cylinder is needed.. (which means pull the trans)

Plus, I'd like to establish a relationship with someone to get the car dyno-tuned in the near future, and things like that.

RPM in Garner did all the work in it when the P/O owned it, but Garner is too far to drive during the day.

NO CAROLINA AUTO MASTERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeffs a dick, if your gonna take it to anyone. Ive got a few different people who can do the work and are very familiar with the LS1 series of cars and def. most any f-body issue.
Mike Ellis in Hillsboro is one, used to be part owner of CAM, but moved on.
Dusty Wall in Durham (Blazing High Performance), does real nice work with f-bodies and can get you just bout anything you need!
Ask Greg about Mike Ellis, he knows the deal. Either one will do right by you though.

PS: If you take your car to CAM expect to get raped now!

I did not want to be the 1st to say NO do not go to CAM.. but i agree with "bcammons21" go somewhere else

I have been to his shop twice for the diesel dyno days and I will never go back again.. they have no idea how to run there own dyno machine..

x2 ON WHATS SAID ABOVE...

mike ellis WAS CAM and moved on for obvious reasons. I will put you in touch with him or Dusty. both are good people to know and very knowledgable on lt1 and ls1. in fact thats all they do. Rich call me not pm me tonight and ill helop you out.

BTW dusty has done some dyno tuning for me in the past on my C5 and he will also kill summits prices on everything they have. He is now my first call on any parts i cant get at work.

I would say NO to CAM anyday of the week!
Aint been up there since Ellis left and dont plan on goin back, esp since Jeff the :gay: runs it.

defintely do not go to CAM. search around on horsepowerjunkies.com, there should be plenty of info on there detailing some of the their asshole customer service and crap tunes/work. the other shop in durham you're probably thinking of is HRT (hand crafted racing). i've heard they do good work, but i don't know that they really specialize in anything particular.

i would reccomend either RPM in garner or mayhem motorsports in raleigh. both are late model gm performance specialists, and damn good at what they do. RPM is very well known in the LSx world for some of the top notch stuff they turn out. i personally use RPM for my LSx car (in fact it's there right now).

i've also heard good things about dusty (same dusty of blazing high performance i assume?) that greg mentioned, but don't have any personal experience with him other than speaking with him one time about a nitrous quote.

RPM isn't open till after the new year.. That's actually who did alot of the work on this car anyway.. The PO has a turbo WS6 that they did...

HRT was more of a machine shop and engine builder in their last location. Joel (the owner) is a pretty good guy. Done a few motors for some friends.
I dont know much bout what other work they do now.
But if you want to establish more of a personal kind of relationship with the person that works on your car i would definetly recommend Mike Ellis or Dusty Wall.
Both work from home and have good reputations.
Ive had Ellis do 4 gear installs, an ARB locker and 3 posi's for me, put a Supercharger on my brothers F-150, fixed my grandma's mercedes and Caddy, is building a friends motor, and he has a great rep for if its not done right he'll get it done right for you.
Dusty built a buddys motor not too long ago, gets lots of parts, and is pretty much f-body only.
Both are great guys to know, known both for years.

yep, they'll be back on the 2nd. you should still be able to get in touch with some of the guys via pm on hpj if you have any questions before then though, i know i've seen billy (shop manager) posting this week. he usually gets back to you within 12-24 hours if not faster.

i personally think they're worth the drive, and them having history with the car is a plus. that was actually my deciding factor in having them do a few things for me. mayhem is right around the corner from my house, but rpm did some of the work and the intial tune on the car. i'd trust anyone mentioned here though (except cam obviously).

I've got a set of '69 351W heads that's been setting at HRT for over a year now. I've made 2 trips to check on them and even got a work order put in a slot on the wall (for whatever that mattered) with a promise and still no go. My last visit was expected and it must have been 4-5 months ago. My next vist whenever I get time will be unexpected to pick up my heads to take to someone else.
But all in all I've known Steve and Joel for many years and never had problems in the past. Great people, just a tad lacking on customer communication. They've always gave me a discount so I think high payers are taking priority. And the work schedule must be busy for them.
CPerry on this site has worked in Durham for a long time and might know someone. That is if he don't offer to do that work himself? I can't believe he hasn't posted on this one...

RICH I called you this morning and left both Dusty's (Blazing High Performance) and Mike Ellis's cell numbers on your voicemail.

I recomend either or but Dusty will get it done quicker. Call me at the store if you need any other info.

Thanks all...

I love this fucking car, but it's gonna get me in soooo much trouble... especially when i can go through more than 2 gears at a time..

Rich you don't seem much like a country music fan. Having that car though you need to listen to this song ---> Artist - Brad Paisley, CD - 5th Gear, Song - "Mr. Policeman". Give it a listen if you have the time.

Nice looking car by the way. :driver:
