Questions about area Between Denton and Greensboro??

So, my fieoncee was just offered a job in Denton, NC. First question is, what is this area like? Is it a nice area, is it getto, is it poor and trailer trash? 2nd question is, Is there much of a market for a Mechanical or Quality Engineer in the area? By area I mean a 50 mile or so radius. 3rd question, where are the best areas to live in this area? Any input any of you can give me about the area is VERY much appriciated.

Many Thanks,
John

The area is rural, if you like a "country" type setting it's not bad. There is nothing to do there, they roll the side walks up when the street lights come on. It's far from ghetto, my wifes family is from around that area, and yes you can still find a cross or two burning in a trailer park. Greensboro, High Point, and Winston are all within your 50mile radius and have a lot more to offer in a "city" as far as population and activities.
The upside is if you're into wheeling our private land to wheel on is less than 15 minutes from there.. :D

Sweet about the land, how much does it cost to wheel?? I have a 92 YJ, 33s, 3.5" lift, posi in the rear, full cage, custom front and rear bumpers, flat fendered, about to get 4.10 axels and harnesses. I also have a 77 chevy full size with 4" Lift, 35s, custom flat bed/roll cage, custom bumpers, 1 ton drive train, built sb 355, 9k winch, lots of recovery gear... Know arround here as Heavy Chevy Recovery Vehicle... because I am yet to find a vehicle I can not get unstuck with it... Including a 4x4 Kubota tractor burried in about 3' of clay with a 28' trailer attached to it... Its fun

Oh yea, country living is kina what I am after. Currently I live on 30 acres of heavily wooded land, 10 miles to the nearest town of about 2-4k people and 15 miles to about 35 or 40k people... West Michigan is a great area!

Denton is the rural life. You have lakes, mtns., and Uwharrie is your backyard. I don't think there is much for a ME down that way, your best bet is gonna be in Greensboro. That is one of the larger cities towards this side of the state. If you pick a place to live outside the city between Greensboro and Denton you will still retain the small country feel but close enough to have a short drive to work and shopping, etc. Try searching for Thomasville, Trinity, Archdale, (there are a few more small towns I am missing in here, feel free to add to this list). I live in Trinity, which is about 45 min from Denton and 15-20 min from Greensboro, and roughly 4 hrs from the Atlantic!! Hope this helps. ;)

do a search for "Uwharrie" that trail system will be right down the road.. also "Tellico" is not to far and if you talk to BigWoody he may envite to there "Playground"

You may want to look around Asheboro also. Its 20 minutes from Denton & Greensboro.

Your best bet for a Mechanical or Quality Engineer job in the Asheboro area would probaly be working for Timken or Goodyear there.

Good Luck

Thanks for all the responses guys and gals, it’s much appreciated. Unfortunately my Fiancée turned down the job. We drove down this weekend, 1700 miles round trip from 11pm Friday to 7pm Sunday. When we got there we met with a Realtor and grabbed local papers. When we saw "Unemployment rises to 6.9%" as a headline and the realtor said, "The biggest thing, possibly only thing keeping this area afloat is people retiring to the area." It really made the two of us reconsider. Plus in looking around the area there was not much for an hour or more drive really turned her off to the area. Her biggest fear was we would move down there and have the same problem down there that we do here, one has a job, and the other can't find one. Around here she has the ability to do lots of other types of jobs, accountant, restaurant management, currently she manages a marina, so she is making some $$. Down there I am not sure there would be much I could do. Hopefully though she and I will be back down in the area some time wheeling and/or SCUBA diving... Morehead City Rocks for diving!!!

Thanks again all
