Wife and I are heading down there soon.
Anyone here got some advice on must see or not see while there?
We're not doing the big resort, got a little suite between the main drag and the ocean.
Ideally want to snorkel and other than that no real idea.

Don't eat the salad.

Otherwise, we went there and it was really nice, but we were on a big resort.

And I ate the salad and got E Coli poisoning. That one week vacation stayed with me for two weeks afterwards......

Did a family vacation there May of last year at one of the adults only all inclusive resorts...pretty sure I got my money's worth in tequila/whiskey/beer. Didn't leave but once or twice because it took a while to get to the tourist section/main drag. My only advice:
1 - go earlier or later in the year...its too hot! probably too late, but apparently May is when all the sea-weed accumulated near the shore (who knew?) and it stinks
2 - if you end up going to the main drag to shop, the further away from the resort drop-offs had the better deals (haggling is expected)
3 - you can tell the real silver/diamond shops because they'll have armed guards

A cool thing I noticed while down there was most of the vehicles were manual transmissions and ~50% were diesels.

Great place! My gf and I just came back from a week's trip out there. We stayed in one of the inclusive resorts. It all depends on what you are into. I would suggest you visiting one of the Mayan ruins. We went on the Tulum excursion, which included visiting Tulum, snorkeling with sea turtles, and swimming in a crystal clear cenote (underwater cave) with tons of catfish.

Other excursions that include cenotes might be what we would classify as a rock quarry over here in the states. Cloudy water, with cliffs and zip lines you can jump off of. Just to note that not all cenotes are the same.

Another full day excursion we went on was at Selvatica. It was the Gimme All package, and they gave it all to you. They neatly crammed in all of the events in a logical order. Polaris RZRs or ATVs through the woods, alots of zip lining, ropes course, roller coaster zip line, swinging bungie jump, 2 cenotes... too many details to write, but it was a BLAST.

We went to the Tulum ruins and did some tours of cenotes. I would recommend both. The one cenote that I remember was cool was the Grand Cenote. The water is damn cold!

Tulum is on the list, friends have a place and car down here. So that helps, but figured I'd ask here instead of just trusting their opinion. Selvatica sounds fun. Got to do the sight seeing flight on the way in from storms, circled for about an hour above.
